Overview

Position: Assistant City Attorney for the City of Thousand Oaks. This is a statewide search with a focus on Southern California. The City seeks a legal professional with municipal/government law experience as a generalist in key areas. The City Attorney’s office includes the City Attorney, three Assistant City Attorneys, one Senior Legal Assistant/Office Manager, and one Administrative Clerk. The selected candidate will report to the City Attorney and may handle assignments from the City Attorney or other attorneys, under the City Attorney’s direction. Assignments may include providing legal services and counsel to City departments, City Council, City Planning Commission, and other boards, commissions, and committees depending on the candidate a0 0experience. Responsibilities

Provide legal services and counsel on a wide range of issues for City departments, City Council, City Planning Commission, and other boards/commissions as assigned. Support the City Attorney and other attorneys in the Office as needed, under the direction of the City Attorney. Qualifications and Prior Experience

Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-approved law school and current membership in the State Bar of California. Typically 7 years of experience in municipal/government law. Experience may be gained from local government (city, county, or special district) or from a municipal law firm serving local government clients. Ability to provide a combination of education and experience that demonstrates required knowledge and abilities. Specific advantageous areas include: code enforcement; human resources-related matters (employee relations, grievances, investigations/discipline); Public Records Act; Public Contracts Code; Political Reform Act; and land use/real estate experience as a plus. Compensation and Schedule

The City is prepared to offer a salary in the range of $177,952.32 to $266,928.69 annually, DOQ. City Hall operates on a 9/80 schedule. The City provides flexibility in the schedule and hybrid-remote working opportunities after 6 months of employment. The City also offers an attractive benefits package including CalPERS retirement.
