Duties and Responsibilities Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) seeks a dynamic and strategic Director of Alumni Relations to lead the university’s efforts in building lifelong, meaningful relationships with its alumni. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement, the Director will oversee all alumni engagement activities, manage alumni communications, and collaborate across campus to support advancement goals. This position plays a key role in enhancing alumni involvement, volunteerism, and philanthropic support for AUM.

Leadership & Strategy

Develop and implement a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy aligned with AUM’s mission and advancement goals.

Mange AUM Alumni Association and AUM Alumni Board of Directors including facilitating all board activities and meetings.

Manages AUM Alumni Association awards programs to include notification, publicizing, compiling data and disseminating information to directors concerning awards within established deadlines and timelines.

Supervise and mentor the Alumni Coordinator, providing direction, support, and professional development.

Establish annual goals and metrics for alumni engagement and evaluate progress regularly.

Alumni Engagement & Events

Plan and execute alumni events including Homecoming, alumni gatherings, and student-alumni networking opportunities.

Plan and execute alumni recognition events, awards and activities.

Cultivate and support the AUM Alumni Association Board and other alumni leadership groups.

Encourage and manage alumni involvement in mentorship programs, campus visits, and speaking engagements.

Develop strategies to increase annual and lifetime Alumni Association memberships.

Promote and coordinate the AUM Alumni Travel Program and AUM Car Tag program

Ensure timely administration of alumni membership processing.

Work with vendors to ensure contracts and payments are completed in a timely manner.

Communications & Outreach

Develop and manage alumni communications, including newsletters, invitations, social media, website and digital outreach in collaboration with the University Marketing and Communications team.

Develop and implement a communications plan to increase alumni participation and engagement.

Promote alumni achievements and university updates through various communication channels.

Ensure the alumni database is current and effectively utilized to target communications and measure engagement.

Volunteer & Donor Engagement

Identify and engage alumni volunteers for university initiatives, events, and giving campaigns.

Partner with development staff to support alumni fundraising efforts, annual giving appeals, and donor stewardship.

Collaboration & Campus Integration

Works with Associate Vice Chancellor of Advancement and Advancement team on assigned projects for the AUM Alumni Association and Office of Advancement.

Work closely with university departments and colleges to foster alumni-student connections.

Represent the university at events and engage with diverse alumni communities both locally and regionally.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of AUM’s alumni community and institutional culture.

Experience in higher education or nonprofit advancement settings.

Strong project management and event planning capabilities.

Creative thinker with a collaborative mindset and results-driven approach.
