Summary: A full time, non-exempt position responsible for assisting the dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients of the center. The Dental Assistant is also responsible for sterilization, preparation and inventory control of dental instruments and supplies.

Responsibilities
- Assists patients in resolving minor difficulties, discussing treatment plans, answering questions, and giving directions to patients as authorized by the dentist.
- Serves as the dentist's or dental hygienist's chair-side assistant.
- Prepares operatory for patient treatment according to Dental Department protocols and directions.
- Exposes and develops dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations and department directives.
- Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by the dentist in accordance with state regulations and certifications.
- Maintains Dental Department equipment, areas and supplies in accordance with policies and infection control standards.
- Maintains MSDS sheets, Radiation Badge reporting, autoclave test strips and related reports.
- Prepares cases to send to laboratory and maintains invoices for lab bills.
- Receives and places necessary telephone calls consistent with professional matters, clinic business and patient care of the Dental Department.
- Assists with clinical and administrative functions of the center as appropriate and time permits.
- Ensures sterility of reusable dental instruments and proper disposal of contaminated materials in accordance with directives and regulations.
- Maintains exposure control and safety per the center and department policies.
- Participates in health promotion / disease prevention activities on-site and off-site as required.
- Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.
- Performs other related duties as directed to meet organizational goals.
- Complies with all applicable federal, state, local and center regulations and policies, including participation in clinical care and safety, confidentiality, and workplace standards.
Qualifications
Education and Training
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Completion of accredited course in dental assisting preferred
- Ability to attend to multiple tasks and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines
Licensure and Credentials
- Certified Dental Assistant preferred
- Current CPR (BLS) required
Skills And Abilities
Requires comprehensive knowledge of dental assisting techniques and procedures for all phases of general dentistry. Knowledge of modern dental materials and handling is required. The Dental Assistant must interact empathetically and professionally with patients and work effectively with a diverse team to support integrated primary health care.
