Responsibilities

1. Meet the regulatory requirements of CA Codes (Business and Professions Code: 1246) and California Code of Regulations: 1034, or state regulatory certification requirements to work in the clinical laboratory.
2. Perform skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages to obtain blood specimens for analysis in the clinical laboratory, under supervision of the Laboratory Director / Manager / Supervisor.
3. Perform computer data entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties.
4. Demonstrate adequate knowledge of the terminology of tests ordered in the laboratory and maintain good communication and telephone etiquette when greeting patients and visitors.
5. Demonstrate proper phlebotomy technique and use of equipment to collect specimens from newborns to geriatric patients.
6. Process specimens for microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank; process specimens for referral to reference laboratories.
7. Stock routine supplies and maintain the cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers and work areas.
8. Process or load specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation in accordance with established policy and procedures.
9. Assist with picking up samples at hospital/OR, sort samples for analysis, put away samples, assist pathology, inventory, replenish supplies, order supplies, mail pickup/delivery, faxing, answering phones, product deliveries, etc.
10. Perform other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the department manager/director.

Qualifications

1. Education, Experience, Training
2. High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.
3. Current and valid state certification as a CPT I, required.
4. BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current, required.
5. Minimum of one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience, preferred.

Pay Transparency

Huntington Beach Hospital offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package. The Total Rewards package includes paid time off, a 401K plan, medical, dental and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and many voluntary benefit options. A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, including wages, benefits and other compensation, is $21.00 to $23.72. The exact starting compensation will be determined at the time of hire based on factors such as skillset, experience, education, credentials and licensure.
