Part-Time Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Location: Thomas University
Position Type: Part-Time (10 hours per week)
Job Summary: Thomas University is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Part-Time Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach to join our athletic department. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams, promoting the overall performance, health, and well-being of our student-athletes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Design and Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive strength and conditioning programs tailored to the specific needs of assigned sports teams.
- Collaborate with head coaches and athletic training staff to align programs with team objectives and training cycles.
- Demonstration and Instruction:
- Demonstrate and instruct athletes in proper Olympic weightlifting techniques and other strength training exercises to ensure safety and effectiveness.
- Provide ongoing education and guidance to student-athletes regarding strength training principles, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
- Supervision During Workouts:
- Supervise team workouts, ensuring all exercises are performed with proper technique and in a safe manner.
- Monitor and assess athlete progress, providing feedback and adjustments to maximize performance gains.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of athletes’ training sessions, progress, and injury status in collaboration with the athletic training staff.
- Assist in scheduling training sessions and managing the use of weight room facilities.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Foster a positive and motivating environment that encourages athlete engagement and commitment to training programs.
- Regularly communicate with coaching staff regarding athlete performance and any concerns related to training.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Relevant experience in strength and conditioning, preferably at the collegiate or professional level.
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Olympic weightlifting techniques and experience in coaching athletes in these movements.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate exercises with proper technique and receive a moderate to intense physical demand during training sessions.
- Must be able to lift and spot athletes during weightlifting exercises.
