Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our team as a Custodian at Saginaw Township Community Schools. This part-time position is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing excellent service.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and sanitizing classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
  • Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste in accordance with school policies.
  • Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for school events and activities.
  • Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and report any maintenance issues to the supervisor.
  • Ensure that all cleaning equipment is properly maintained and stored.
  • Follow safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Support the school community by responding to custodial requests in a timely manner.
  • Participate in training and professional development as required.
  • Clean and maintain assigned areas of the building, including, but not limited to: vacuuming, carpet care, bathroom and locker room sanitation, dispenser maintenance, waste management, and surface cleaning.
  • Clean windows and window ledges; dust shelves, desks, chairs, filing cabinets, lockers, and other surfaces.
  • Assist with unloading and storing deliveries; operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Assist with grounds keeping and stadium cleanup as needed; assist with special function setup, teardown, and cleanup (repeated lifting and moving of chairs, tables, etc.).
  • Support school-related activities, athletic events, and Community Education events & activities.
  • Assist with general cleaning of the entire building during school vacation periods or at other times set up by supervisor.
  • May assist other custodial staff with grounds maintenance including mowing, weed removal, and/or snow removal as needed.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Other duties assigned by a supervisor.

Shift

This position is a school-year part-time assignment approximately mid-August through mid-June (with summer work available, if desired). The standard shift is Monday - Friday, 4 hours per day with varying shift times available.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent required.
  • Punctual with good attendance.
  • In-person attendance required.
  • Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Aptitude for successful completion of assigned tasks.
  • Ability to relate to, communicate, and cooperate with staff, students, and the general public.
  • General knowledge of cleaning, repairing, and maintaining tile and carpeted floors.
  • Knowledge and ability to clean and sanitize bathrooms.
  • Assist, as needed, with grounds keeping and snow removal.
  • Capable of climbing an eight (8) foot ladder.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25-35 pounds (repeated lifting).
  • Strong desire to be part of a fast-paced team.
