POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Human Resources will lead all HR functions for the company, partnering with leadership to align HR strategies with business objectives. This role oversees talent acquisition, performance management, employee and labor relations, compensation and benefits, compliance, and organizational development. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to managers and employees, fosters a high-performance culture, supports both union and non-union workforces, and drives initiatives that promote engagement, workforce development, and long-term business success.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders to develop and execute HR strategies and workforce needs that align with business objectives and drive team performance.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, addressing employee concerns, investigating workplace issues, and ensuring fair and consistent resolution in alignment with company policies and legal compliance.
  • Provide guidance to managers and employees on performance expectations, feedback, and development plans to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Develop and execute tailored talent acquisition strategies to attract and retain both exempt professionals (e.g., engineers, technical staff) and skilled non-exempt manufacturing personnel (e.g., machinists, assemblers), ensuring alignment with company growth goals, workforce planning, and culture.
  • Lead and manage the full cycle hiring process, including job postings, candidate sourcing, screening, interviews, offer management, background checks and onboarding.
  • Develop and manage competitive compensation structures and incentive programs to attract, retain, and motivate top talent.
  • Design and implement succession planning processes to ensure leadership continuity and coverage of critical roles.
  • Maintain and optimize HR information systems for accurate workforce data, payroll, benefits administration, and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to employment laws, company policies, and HR best practices while providing guidance on workplace compliance issues.
  • Lead and support change initiatives, fostering employee engagement and promoting a positive work environment.
  • Assist in implementing key HR programs, including engagement surveys, and leadership development programs.
  • Help develop, refine, and communicate HR policies, ensuring clarity and alignment with company culture.
  • Oversee the administration of employee benefits programs and manage relationships with external vendors.
  • Collaborate with union representatives on matters related to unionized employees, including benefits, grievances, and contract compliance.
  • Lead union contract negotiations, including strategy development, bargaining, and implementation of collective bargaining agreements, fostering positive relationships to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Ensure proper administration and processing of employee payroll changes, terminations, vacation payouts, and employee records.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements (e.g., workers’ compensation, Ohio unclaimed property, Chubb insurance renewals).

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent years of experience/certification.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, including partnering with business leaders.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a unionized manufacturing environment required.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and employee and labor relations.
  • Experience leveraging data to drive HR insights and decisions.
  • Proven ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to HR challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace, engineering, or high-tech industries.
  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP).
  • Experience supporting Exempt, non-exempt and hourly workforce populations.
