Essential Job Functions

• Follow standardized recipes, portioning, menu extensions, and presentation standards.
• Complete and utilize daily production worksheets and waste log sheets.
• Taste completed meals to ensure quality.
• Monitor temperature of hot and cold foods during preparation and service to meet established goals.
• Inspect food products and supplies upon delivery, especially in the absence of the Director of Culinary.
• Supervise and assist in storage of supplies and food products.
• Report needs for food, supplies, or equipment, and any equipment breakdowns or unsafe conditions to the Director of Culinary.
• Comply with health and sanitation regulations and procedures, as evidenced through audits.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of cooking experience, including batch cooking, family-style restaurants, or short order cooking.
• Desired: 1+ year of food service experience in a healthcare dietary setting.
• Knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioned serving.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes, diet orders, and work assignments.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including during emergencies.
• Patience and tolerance towards staff, residents, and family members.

Education Requirements

• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Preference for education in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets.

Competencies

• Customer service orientation.
• Basic food preparation knowledge.
• Sanitation and safety practices.
• Thoroughness and time management.

Physical Demands

The role requires standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, lifting, and manipulating food and supplies. Ability to lift/carry 50-75 pounds and work with chemicals is necessary.

Additional Information

Shifts vary, including every other weekend.

Hourly wage: $17.54 - $18.98.
