Overview

Southwest Virginia Community College seeks a visionary and student-centered leader to serve as Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Reporting directly to the President, this senior executive will oversee all academic and student services functions, fostering a dynamic, inclusive, and caring learning environment that promotes student success and community vitality. Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy: Serve as Chief Academic Officer, providing strategic leadership for academic and student affairs across all college locations; guide college-wide initiatives, enrollment management, and long-range planning aligned with institutional goals; use data to inform decisions and ensure continuous improvement and accreditation compliance. Academic Oversight: Supervise Academic Deans across divisions including Arts & Sciences, Business, IT, Health Technology, and Workforce Development; oversee curriculum development, course scheduling, faculty workload, and instructional quality in credit and workforce programs; support faculty development and foster a culture of academic excellence and innovation. Student Services Oversight: Supervise the Dean of Student Success and Title IX Coordinator, overseeing enrollment services, student support, retention, and learning resources; provide leadership for intercollegiate athletics and ensure compliance with NJCAA or other governing bodies. Collaboration & Representation: Advise the President and serve on the leadership team and key committees; represent the College at regional and state meetings; build partnerships with K-12 schools, universities, employers, and community organizations. Skilled in enrollment management, program development, and instructional improvement; effective communicator with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's / Required Qualifications

Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution. Senior-level experience in academic or student affairs. Proven leadership in budgeting, planning, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness. Experience with educational technologies and data analytics. Ability to work within shared governance and build strong faculty relationships. Commitment to the College’s mission and regional economic alignment. Additional Considerations

Post-secondary teaching experience. Experience in faculty and instructional program leadership. Background in college athletics administration. Success in grant writing and external funding. Operational Details
