Role Summary
Embrace this role to provide skilled computer-aided design (CAD) drafting and design of preliminary functional to basic final contract drawings by using general knowledge of construction standards and techniques. This is an opportunity to deliver technical and professional engineering, construction, and maintenance to sustain facilities, infrastructure, and ecosystems. We are seeking a candidate to assist in the design of projects by completing CAD drawings and details from design sketches and existing drawings.
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities, this position will: Responsibilities
Drafting: Prepares original drawings utilizing CAD programs. Prepares architectural, civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural drawings. Details and plans from old drawings, and mostly complete sketches, as assigned. Computes yardages and other quantities subject to check. Drafts rudimentary and finished maps. Plots graphs, profiles, and other statistical, mathematical or engineering-type graphic illustrations. Revises construction plans with “as built” corrections. Other Technical Areas
Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, and Structural: Prepares minor calculations and basic partial designs for review and use in drafting above. Computes minor quantities of areas and volumes in complex shapes. Survey: Obtains data for project control and prepares calculations for field staking of coordinates for construction layout and control. Completes field research, assists in information collection, inspects and measures existing structures for accurate drafting later and measures stream flows. Occasionally works with Survey crew in the field collecting data for projects. Office Duties: Orders drafting and technical materials for the office. Reviews RFIs and project submittals as requested by Project Managers.
Working Conditions
Work setting-
Duties are performed in an office setting, and on construction sites (Hatcheries, Offices, Accesses, and Wildlife areas). Tasks involve sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Office hazards include fluorescent lighting, data entry, long periods at a computer, and long periods of standing or sitting. Must be able to walk on uneven terrain and steep slopes, tolerate inclement weather, climb ladders, work from boats, and work from elevated locations. May involve working in or near water and navigating water environments. Occasionally exert sustained physical effort in the field in inclement weather. Schedule-
Typically Monday–Friday, but may require more than 40 hours per week or weekend work occasionally to meet business needs. Travel requirements-
Travel as required. Possible extended periods in the field. Customer Interactions-
Working primarily with Project Managers, Engineers, Engineering Aides, and Inspectors.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in Computer Aided Drafting. Option 2: High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of college level coursework with a major emphasis in Computer Aided Drafting. Option 3: Two years of experience as an Engineering Aide 1. License:
Valid driver’s license. In addition to the qualification options above, candidates must also have experience in/with the following: Applying drafting techniques while utilizing AutoCAD drafting software and methods. Math skills needed for drafting related calculations. Project Management and organizational skills. Communication skills including verbal, written, and presentation skills. Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment. Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). Special Requirement/Condition of Employment:
Successful completion of agency training and/or certification for assigned watercraft dependent on supervisory direction, position need, and training availability. Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the required qualifications, our ideal applicant will possess some or all of the following: A minimum of 50 credit hours of CAD instruction in architectural, mechanical, or civil drafting. Two (2) years of work experience in Civil Drafting. Principles of Surveying. Experience using Civil3D Software. Experience using Bluebeam Software. Experience in Grading, Surfaces and Pipe Networks. Basics of Engineering.
