Hours, Location and Travel This is a full time position (35 hours a week) during Monday-Friday business hours. We maintain an office in NYC, and we participate in or host events in NYC (mostly Manhattan and Brooklyn, but we serve all 5 boroughs) and in the Hudson Valley. Our staff currently works remotely most of the time but does have some in-person meetings and events in NYC for which in-person attendance would be required, some of which will be on evenings or weekends. The Communications & Program Director should be prepared to be working in-person in NYC approximately 2-3 times per month (with at least a week’s notice). Travel to/from NYC will not be compensated if the employee is located out of the area.
At Chosen Family Law Center, we deeply value work-life balance and support our team in taking time off. If there is a prearranged event on an evening or weekend, which we anticipate to occur an average of once or twice per month (more during Pride month) in consultation with the CPD about their schedule, this time would be offset by other hours during the work week. Pride month events will require additional in person NYC time. Unless there is a prearranged event, off work time will be honored and protected.
Compensation & Benefits This is a salaried position and exempt from overtime. The salary for this position is $70,000, plus discretionary bonus, with significant room for advancement as the organization grows. Employee will receive an excellent benefits package including 25 paid vacation days, paid sick leave, paid holidays, and a QSEHRA health reimbursement plan.
Commitment to Equity We are passionate advocates with a deep commitment to justice, and welcome diverse educational, professional, and lived experiences. Chosen Family Law Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to building the leadership of people of color, women, transgender, intersex, and gender non-conforming individuals. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, gender, gender expression, gender identity, age, ethnicity, immigration status, national origin, sexual orientation, religion, HIV status, disability, family composition, or marital status.
About Us Chosen Family Law Center is a New York-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to cultivate equitable social and legal recognition of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+) and polyamorous families and individuals, as well as other underserved non-nuclear family forms such as platonic co-parents or multigenerational families. We enact our mission through three programmatic avenues: direct legal services for low-income New Yorkers; legislative drafting and advocacy; and professional and public education programs for lawyers, judges, therapists, social workers, and the general public.
Our mission-driven, high-performing team is small, collaborative, and made up of members of the communities impacted by our work. We prioritize a client- and community-led, trauma-informed, and accountability-focused perspective. The ideal candidate will share those values and be excited to collaborate on building the world we want to live in. We also highly value our ability to bring our whole selves into the work and are committed to supporting each other’s holistic well-being, continued professional development, and liberation.
