Executive Director, Children’s Pediatric Blood Disorder and Cancer Center (PBCC)
(ranks available: Associate Professor or Professor). The successful candidate will practice in Morgantown, WV. Duties
The Executive Director serves as the physician executive for the PBCC, leading programs at the state’s premier academic children’s hospital. This role collaborates closely with WVU Health System leadership, members, and affiliates to develop and support WVUHS initiatives. The Executive Director works with the Director of the WVU Cancer Institute (WVUCI) in programmatic development leading to a successful grant application for NCI Designation. Additionally, the Executive Director works with the WVU School of Medicine and Health Sciences Center (HSC) to ensure alignment with educational programs and foster a high‑quality learning environment. The role involves strategic development of partnerships and networks to enhance pediatric, adolescent, and young adult (AYA) oncology care in ambulatory and hospital-based clinical services. The successful candidate will practice pediatric hematology/oncology as part of the WVU Medicine Children’s PBCC, with a team that includes multiple pediatric oncologists, neurosurgeons, surgeons, advanced practice providers, clinical staff, pharmacists, palliative physicians, PM&R physicians, a neuropsychologist, a pediatric psychologist, a pediatric social worker, a clinical research associate, and a facility dog. The PBCC includes an inpatient unit in a new Children’s Hospital and an expanded infusion center in a new Children’s medical office building. In addition to patient care, the successful candidate will be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and advanced practice providers. Qualifications
Required: MD or DO or foreign equivalent; eligible for state medical license; completed pediatric residency; hematology/oncology fellowship; board certified in pediatric hematology/oncology; ten years of clinical experience in a children’s health specialty. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment. Our new 150-bed Children’s Hospital includes pediatric operating rooms, a cardiac catheterization lab/interventional radiology, GI-endoscopy with dedicated pediatric anesthesia staff; 34 pediatric beds, 54 NICU beds, 31 PICU beds, Heart Institute, and a dedicated Cancer Institute. WVU Medicine Children’s is a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, with plans to become Level 1. The Women’s Pavilion houses a 30-bed obstetrical unit and maternal-fetal medicine clinic. J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in West Virginia with a pediatric cardiac surgery program, the only epilepsy monitoring unit in the state for children, and the only Magnet-accredited nursing facility in the state. The WVUCI was named one of the top cancer hospitals by Newsweek and serves over 125,000 patients annually. Multidisciplinary teams use the latest cancer therapies and technologies, with ongoing patient-driven research. The Division of Medical Oncology includes over 75 physicians and advanced practice professionals at 15 practice sites across a multi-state network. The WVUCI has a dedicated Clinical Research Unit (CRU) providing administrative and regulatory support to the PBCC. The WVU Health System is West Virginia’s largest health system and employer, with extensive expansion in cancer, cardiovascular, and neuroscience care.
