Water Resources Engineer

Responsibilities STV currently has an opening in our Boston, MA office for a Water Resources Engineering Specialist in our Transportation & Infrastructure division. This role will perform a variety of complex tasks including quality control, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, calculations, GIS analysis, fieldwork, and coordination of tasks and personnel. The candidate should have extensive water resources engineering experience including river, sewer and drain collection system hydraulic and water distribution modeling and design, a strong understanding of FEMA floodplain studies, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis (1D & 2D modeling), and knowledge of FEMA\'s Risk MAP program and standards. May support map revision projects such as CLOMRs, LOMRs, and No-Rise Analyses, and perform quality control on H&H analyses for flood risk projects. Other tasks include overseeing and managing the preparation of construction documents, plans, specifications, construction cost estimates, and various studies and reports for roadway, highway, rail, utility, site development and water resources projects, including design projects for commercial, educational, industrial, and governmental/public agencies. The candidate will be responsible for:
managing projects for client/ownership teams, managing project team surveyors, architects and engineers in other technical disciplines, and marketing teams
mentoring civil engineering staff in the design and delivery of interdisciplinary projects, document preparation and production for design/bid/build and permitting, managing sub-consultants, and project budgets, schedules, and quality control
providing final design and oversight of roadway, highway, and rail alignments, cross sections and details, grading, drainage (hydraulics and hydrology) and utility, traffic signal and control plans and other highway infrastructure and site work
preparing detailed written cost proposals for existing and new clients for design/bid/build projects
providing technical expertise for staff, project teams and client/ownership teams
preparing Hydrology and Hydraulic Reports and providing civil design expertise using software including but not limited to HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Hydro-CAD and Storm-CAD
Required Skills & Experience
BS/MS degree in Civil Engineering or Physical Sciences (PE Licensed in MA or ability to obtain in 6 months)
Minimum of 2 years of work experience in watershed modelling, culvert analysis site, transportation, highway and roadway design, or closely related consulting engineering field work
Highly experienced in HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, WaterGEMS, XP-SWMM, PC-SWMM, HydroCAD, SewerGEMS, StormCAD, InfoWorks, InfoWater, AutoDesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis Modeling, FLOW-3D (CFM), AutoCAD Civil 3D (including surface creation/manipulation, pipe networks, corridor development), Microsoft Office Suite including Project, ARCGIS, and Bluebeam Revu (or similar)
Experience with MassDOT Project Design Guidelines
Experience with MA-DEP Stormwater Requirements and Permitting
Knowledgeable of and ability to interpret municipal/state (MA)/federal codes, ordinances, guidelines and requirements for land development project permitting
Ability to manage client/ownership design/bid/build projects from concept to completion
Strong understanding of general civil site and roadway construction methods and techniques
Technical expertise in:
Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modelling
Roadway/highway/rail design
Site Design (emphasis on municipal and state agency sites and facilities)
Vertical and horizontal alignments
Drainage and Utility system designs
Grading design
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Attention to detail in design, specification writing, and project management
Ability to provide formal and informal presentations virtually and in-person
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced working environment for diverse local and national projects
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and staff/teams of various technical disciplines
Ability to track and meet task and project deadlines and work within allotted budgets
Compensation & Additional Information Compensation Range: $100,243.00 - $130,999.00
