Overview

WVU School of Medicine, Department of Medicine seeks a board-certified hospice and palliative care medicine physician to serve as Section Chief of the Palliative and Supportive Care service. The candidate must have an MD, MD/PhD or DO degree (foreign educational equivalent accepted) and be eligible to obtain an unrestricted West Virginia medical license. Completion of an accredited fellowship in hospice and palliative care medicine is required. Strong leadership skills are needed to oversee programmatic and faculty development. The role includes providing excellent patient care and active involvement in the division’s Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Fellowship programs. This position offers opportunities to pursue academic goals through educating future physicians and participating in clinical research projects. WVU Medicine’s Palliative and Supportive Care Service provides statewide leadership to initiatives such as the West Virginia Center for End-of-Life Care, the West Virginia POST (Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment) program, and the West Virginia e-Directive Registry. The service includes inpatient consults at Ruby Memorial Hospital and inpatient telemedicine consults to system hospitals statewide, plus outpatient care at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, and the WVU Physician Office Center in a chronic disease clinic of the candidate’s interest. Responsibilities

Provide inpatient consults at Ruby Memorial Hospital and oversee inpatient telemedicine consult services to system hospitals across the state. Deliver outpatient supportive care at designated WVU facilities and in a chronic disease clinic of the physician’s interest. Oversee the Adult Palliative and Supportive Care Service, with opportunities for collaboration with the separate pediatric service. Lead and participate in program development, faculty development, and education within the division and affiliated fellowship programs. Engage in academic activities, including medical education and clinical research. Contribute to statewide leadership roles with the WVU Center for End-of-Life Care, POST program, and the e-Directive Registry. Qualifications

Board-certified in hospice and palliative care medicine. MD, MD/PhD or DO degree (foreign educational equivalent accepted). Eligible to obtain an unrestricted West Virginia medical license.
