The pay range per hour is $27.75 - $47.15. Pay is based on several factors which vary by position, including labor markets and, in some cases, education, work experience, and certifications. ALL ABOUT GENERAL MERCHANDISE Experts of operations, process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, merchandised and available, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for GM areas of the store. This team also leads inventory accuracy, merchandise setup and pricing processes for all areas of the store. This team may also lead Food & Beverage and Food Service, providing a fresh and food safe experience. Experts enable efficient delivery of merchandise to our guests by owning pick, pack and ship fulfillment work. Role focus The General Merchandise Team Leader helps develop guest service fundamentals, retail business fundamentals, and team leadership to support department and store goals. Guest service fundamentals and experience building a guest-first culture on your team Retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotions strategies Leading a team by planning daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and drive process improvements Leading a team of hourly team members with interviewing, developing, coaching, evaluating and retaining talent Coaching and training hourly team members to build a capable team under direction from your direct leader Typical responsibilities Execute daily/weekly workload to deliver department and store sales goals and guest engagement, including merchandising, pricing, setting and updating merchandise floor displays, sampling, promotions and price changes Educate your team on operational procedures such as setting up and organizing merchandise, managing stock levels, and maintaining sales floor areas to support inventory management and store profitability Assess reporting to identify gaps in GM processes and assist in developing a plan for your leader to review and approve Ensure accuracy, process and efficiency in operations Lead daily execution of tasks such as receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, arranging merchandise, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas Lead inventory accuracy, merchandise setup and maintenance, and pricing for all store areas Assign daily tasks to team members based on workload and guest traffic patterns Help establish clear goals and hold team members accountable to expectations Assist with efficient delivery to guests by leading pick, pack and ship fulfillment work accurately (when applicable) and assess fulfillment reporting to identify gaps Collaborate with all teams and leaders to identify key priorities and ensure the store is guest-ready in alignment with leadership direction Stay informed about relevant trends and products and relay Target communications during team moments Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team, modeling onboarding and learning best practices; close skill gaps through development and coaching Work a schedule that aligns to guest and business needs (early morning, evening, overnight shifts and weekends) Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes while maintaining a compliance culture, including compliance with federal, state, and local adult beverage laws What we are looking for You enjoy interacting and helping others — guests and fellow team members You thrive in a fast-moving, active and physically demanding role that values teamwork, flexibility and problem solving You are open to a flexible schedule with varying hours, including nights, weekends and holidays Qualifications and prerequisites High school diploma or equivalent (or as required by local law) Age 18 or older Previous retail experience preferred, but not required Ability to lead and hold others accountable Ability to communicate using multiple devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently Capable of remaining focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and completing multiple tasks within established timeframes Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members Effective communication skills Additional expectations Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues Interpret instructions and information Accurately handle cash register operations as needed Climb ladders as needed Scan, handle and move merchandise safely, including lifting up to 45 pounds frequently Flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays; reliable attendance Capable of working in varying temperatures and other elements; drive-up, carryout, etc. Remain mobile for the duration of a shift Note: Target will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the San Francisco and City of Los Angeles Fair Chance Ordinances.
