The Employer Services program within the Insurance Services Division is responsible for establishing and maintaining industrial insurance accounts for over 180,000+ employers and 2.5 million employees doing business throughout the state of Washington. The program provides a wide array of services to employers in the State Fund from helping new businesses get workers’ compensation coverage to specialized underwriting. Job Highlights
We are looking for an Industrial Insurance Underwriter 5 to join our Account Services team. This position reports directly to the Account Services Manager and will have delegated authority to make decisions and coordinate activities that affect essential services with the agency as they relate to employer accounts. You will ensure decisions meet regulatory requirements and policy guidelines. In this position you will be responsible for the supervision of the daily activities of the Account Processor team at our Tumwater headquarters location. You will provide leadership, supervision, direction, development, and encouragement to employees in partnership with our customers to allow for ease of doing business. You will use process improvement strategies and standard work analysis to achieve specific goals in daily work operations. This position directly supports the agency’s mission to Keep Washington Safe and Working. What We Are Looking For

Ability to lead, train and coach others, set goals and expectations and track performance. Ability to draw sound, sensible conclusions and make informed decisions. Experience and understanding of Industrial Insurance, specific to the WA State Workers’ Compensation system. Responsibilities
Plan, assign, and review the work of staff, adjusting assignments and schedules to maintain adequate staff levels and respond to fluctuating workloads. Develop and implement procedures within the team to ensure professional, efficient and high-quality customer services and work products are provided. Evaluate employee performance and prepare performance appraisals. Assess training needs of staff and arrange for or provide instruction. Review staff work for quality, accuracy, and standardization, providing feedback as necessary. Provide management reports on team productivity, quality and operations. Apply Project Management, Process Improvement, and Change Management strategies to work assignments. And much more. Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree. Two years of experience in a related field providing direct customer service. Additional qualifying experience may substitute year-for-year for the required education. Desirable Qualifications
One year supervisor experience. Exceptional people skills with the ability to train, coach, set goals and expectations for each employee, monitor and track performance and provide feedback and coaching. Plan, organize and prioritize workload. Ability to problem solve, make good decisions, actively resolve conflicts, demonstrate effective conflict management skills. Work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing procedures, priorities, goals, etc. Be a team player, collaborate with, and support co-workers/peers and the management team. Use and familiarity with personal computers, including software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams to produce timely and accurate work products. Reading, comprehending and retaining information from written material. Verbal and written communication - express ideas and information clearly for the audience. Analysis - use data to assess issues, evaluate options, form conclusions and make decisions in a timely manner. Decisiveness - make timely decisions without sacrificing quality even under ambiguous circumstances or when data is limited. Recordkeeping - consistently and accurately document information or updates records. Attention to Detail - review information to recognize and correct deficiencies.
