Drug & Alcohol Counselor Psych-ZSFG-Adult-SAAM | Full Time Job Summary: The Opiate Treatment Outpatient Program (OTOP), the OTOP Women's Center, and the OTOP Mobile Methadone Van Program provide Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and counseling to opiate use disorder in conjunction with medical and psychiatric services. The target population for OTOP is low-income medically/psychiatrically compromised opiate dependent individuals who reside in San Francisco, primarily in the South of Market, Mission, Castro, and Tenderloin areas, including a large proportion of African Americans and Latinos, LGBTQ+ individuals, women of childbearing age, pregnant women, and post-partum women. OTOP clients are low-income and uninsured or underinsured, with multiple challenges including poly-drug use, psychiatric difficulties, health risks, and cultural barriers to care. This population is at especially high risk for HIV. The incumbent provides a range of social work counseling services under the direct supervision of the Clinical Supervisor to clients with housing, financial, legal, medical care coordination, transportation, food, and clothing needs, with priority given to HIV+ clients and clients with severe and persistent mental health issues. All sites serve culturally diverse low-income opiate users with co-occurring psychiatric disorders. The incumbent provides culturally appropriate social work services, including mental health screening, brief interventions, and treatment planning. Comprehensive training and clinical supervision hours are provided to support growth in clinical skills. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on factors including work experience and internal equity; for represented positions, placement within the salary range follows collective bargaining agreement rules. The UCSF Department of Psychiatry at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) provides culturally competent services to a diverse patient population. The Division of Substance Abuse and Addiction Medicine (DSAAM) offers multidisciplinary consultation and treatment for substance use disorders at San Francisco General Hospital. DSAAM provides opiate replacement therapy for heroin and other opiate addiction through the OTOP at Ward 93 as a well-established methadone treatment program. Required Qualifications

Possession of a Bachelor's degree in social work from a program approved by the Council on Social Work Education, and 1 year of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position California State certification as an Alcohol/Drug Counselor and/or Registered as a Marriage & Family Therapist intern, Associate Social Worker intern, Professional Clinical Counselor intern Demonstrated skill and knowledge of HIV, assessment and treatment for opiate use/abuse/dependence Experience with providing substance abuse assessments using standardized interview protocols and treatment planning; experience with substance abuse counseling in individual, group, and family modalities as indicated; experience with linkage to services as indicated Strong interpersonal skills and experience with populations diverse in gender, sexual orientation, and ethnicity Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others; able to work in a high-stress, high-volume area and meet deadlines; detail oriented; able to prepare written summaries of activities, set priorities and complete reports within required time frames; knowledge of medical and/or psychiatric terminology Knowledge of ethical, legal and confidentiality issues pertaining to substance abusers with severe medical and/or mental illness Good oral, written, and telephone communication skills; able to work as a team member in a culturally diverse setting Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability Experience working with dual diagnosis populations Experience working with diverse populations in gender, sexual orientation, and ethnicity Experience creating and implementing treatment plans Preferred Qualifications

Valid California Driver License Certified HIV Pre/post-test Counselor Experience building rapport with difficult to engage clients Knowledge and understanding of the San Francisco social service system and community Demonstrated skill and knowledge of major mental health issues and ability to identify and refer appropriately Graduate school coursework in psychology, counseling, social work, addiction studies, or public health leading to certification or licensure Experience working in methadone maintenance treatment with opiate-addicted clients Experience with community outreach, peer educator programs, and volunteer supervision Case management experience and one year work experience in human services Licensure as a clinical social worker, psychologist or therapist, or completion of an advanced degree in social work, psychology or related field and registered as an intern completing hours for licensure License/Certification
