Purpose & Scope The Marketing and Communications Manager works 22.5–30 hours per week and is a key member of the Bridges Homeward Development team. This role is responsible for the strategic implementation of fundraising initiatives, communications, and public relations to sustain and grow programmatic impact and long-term financial strength. This position reports to the Director of Development and collaborates with the Development Associate and the Senior Philanthropic Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Communications
Work closely with the Director of Development to develop and execute an annual communications and marketing plan aligned with organizational goals.
Craft compelling messages that clearly communicate our mission, values, and impact with a clear call to action.
Ensure consistency of messaging across all communication platforms and materials.
Marketing and Branding
Plan and manage digital marketing campaigns, including social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram) and website content.
Collaborate with program directors and staff to promote services, events, and initiatives.
Design or oversee the production of promotional materials, newsletters, and annual reports.
Write and distribute press releases, op-eds, and media advisories.
Coordinate media interviews, speaking opportunities, and public appearances.
Digital Presence & Content Management
Manage the organization's website, ensuring it is up to date and user-friendly.
Lead content creation for blog posts, videos, impact stories, and donor spotlights.
Track and analyze digital metrics to refine communication strategies.
Fundraising Events
Play a key role in supporting the annual impact event and fundraising events.
Prepare invitations and outreach materials, create run of show, speaker presentations, visuals, vendor booking, and communication; oversee live donor platform.
Donor Communications
Work closely with development staff to create donor engagement campaigns and fundraising appeals.
Design donor-centric communication materials, including thank-you letters, reports, and campaign updates.
Support event promotion and follow-up communications.
Team Collaboration & Capacity Building
Coordinate with program directors and staff to gather stories, statistics, and updates for use in communications.
Demonstrate attention to detail and strong organizational and communication skills; manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and changing priorities.
Train staff on brand messaging and media engagement best practices.
Manage external consultants, designers, or freelancers as needed; direct graphic designers, photographers, or other media-production specialists for targeted projects.
Be available to represent the agency at special events, meetings, and other off-site programs, as needed.
Perform other tasks as assigned and work proactively, independently, and collaboratively.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
3–5 years of experience in communications and/or marketing, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
Excellent writing, storytelling, and editing skills with attention to tone and audience.
Proficiency with social media platforms.
Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Other Requirements
Valid Driver's License.
Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
