Responsibilities

Translating Schematics:

Take the schematic diagram created by a design engineer and transform it into a physical layout on the PCB. Component Placement:

Determine the optimal placement of components on the board, considering signal integrity, thermal management, and manufacturability. Trace Routing:

Design the conductive pathways (traces) that connect the components, ensuring proper signal routing, minimizing noise, and adhering to design rules. Design Reviews:

Participate in design reviews, collaborating with RF, electrical, mechanical, and sustaining engineers to ensure designs meet all requirements. Constraint Management:

Manage design rules and constraints related to electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing requirements. Manufacturing Considerations:

Understand manufacturability and design for manufacturability (DFM) principles to ensure the PCB can be efficiently produced. Documentation:

Create and maintain documentation for the PCB layout, including Gerber files used by manufacturers to produce the board. Signal Integrity:

Address signal integrity issues that can arise from high-speed signals and complex layouts. Software Proficiency:

Utilize specialized PCB design software such as Mentor Graphics PADS, Altium Designer, or Cadence OrCAD. Collaboration:

Work closely with design engineers, mechanical engineers, and manufacturing personnel to ensure a successful design and fabrication process. Qualifications

A strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, circuit design, and PCB fabrication processes is essential. Expertise in PCB design software is crucial. Experience with RF layout techniques and considerations. The ability to analyze and solve complex design challenges is important. Knowledge and adherence to IPC standards for PCB design and manufacturing. Effective communication with other team members is necessary. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address design challenges. Precision and accuracy with PCB layout are vital. Education and Training

A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field is a plus. 3+ years experience required, 5+ years preferred.
