Founded in 1964, UMOM is Arizona's largest provider of services for families experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to end family homelessness by restoring hope and rebuilding lives. With an annual operating budget of $23 million dollars, UMOM provides shelter, supportive services, and housing programs to families and individuals experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County. UMOM serves over 13,000 unique individuals across all our services annually, including those families receiving support at the Family Housing Hub, Maricopa County's family coordinated entry system.

Position Description:
The Volunteer and Events Manager is responsible for the successful planning, coordination, and execution of UMOM's fundraising events and volunteer programs. This role will focus on creating engaging, impactful events that drive awareness and raise critical funds for our mission.
Work Schedule:
The typical schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, on-site, normal business hours, with flexibility required to occasionally work evenings and weekends to support the needs of the position and the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Events Management
Plan, organize, and execute UMOM's signature events, including but not limited to the annual gala, 5K and Block Party, community fundraisers, and special donor events
Develop and manage event budgets, timelines, and logistics to ensure successful outcomes
Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials and strategies to maximize event attendance and fundraising goals
Cultivate relationships with industry leaders, vendors, and partners to keep UMOM informed of current trends and secure reduced best pricing when available
Ensure all events are aligned with UMOM's brand and mission
Volunteer Management
Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer program that includes recruitment, orientation, training, and retention strategies
Coordinate volunteer activities and ensure volunteers are effectively utilized across UMOM's programs and services
Maintain accurate records of volunteer participation and contributions
Recognize and celebrate the contributions of volunteers through appreciation events and communications
Fundraising
Work with the development team to identify and cultivate new fundraising opportunities through events and volunteer programs
Track and report on key metrics related to events and volunteer activities to measure success and inform future planning.
Other duties as assigned by Leadership and/or executives.
Qualifications and Competency Requirements Experience and Education
High School Diploma or GED, required
Bachelor's degree, strongly preferred
Minimum five years of professional experience, with at least three years of experience in relevant roles (e.g., volunteer coordination/management, fundraising, community engagement, community-based organizations, etc.)
Demonstrated experience building relationships with individuals, organizations, and businesses and an ability to think strategically about volunteer linkages to development.
Knowledge of non-profit sector; experience working with underserved or disadvantaged populations is a plus.
Computer skills
Proficiency with applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
Previous experience with volunteer or donor management software is strongly preferred
Compliance
Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or the ability to obtain one
Ability to clear the Central Registry Screening from the Department of Child Safety & Adult Protective Services.
Ability to comply with and pass all required background check and drug screening requirements, including but not limited to pre-employment and random drug screening as required/requested.
Valid AZ Driver's License and a driving record that falls within UMOM's policy
50/100 level of car insurance coverage.
This is a safety sensitive position.
Physical activities and working conditions
The physical demands and working conditions described here are representative, but not exhaustive, of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This position is typically performed in an interior, environmentally controlled office setting. The duties of the job require extended periods of time being stationary and manipulating a computer (keyboard, monitor, mouse), and other standard office equipment including, but not limited to: printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
This position also requires the ability to lift at least twenty pounds receiving mail packages, donations, moving volunteer and/or event supplies, and other tasks relevant to the position, ability to ascend and descend one flight of stairs regularly and the ability to perform duties outdoors in all weather conditions.
