The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine is seeking a

Nurse Practitioner

to work with attending physicians, residents, nurses, respiratory therapists, and others in the Neurologic Critical Care Unit (NCCU), and provide patient care in various intensive care units, including surgical, burn, and neuro. Overview

Specific Duties & Responsibilities Work independently with supervision and medical direction from Critical Care Attending Physicians. Coordinate patient care provided by a multi-disciplinary team of specialty care practitioners. Obtain medical histories and perform physical examinations. Order and interpret laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic studies. Interpret information from invasive and non-invasive monitors. Initiate or modify routine, complex, and emergent medication regimens and therapies. Perform emergent, urgent, and routine procedures, if credentialed to do so. Assume responsibility and accountability for organizing time and workload to meet patient, staff, and departmental needs. Serve as an educational and clinical resource to nursing and multi-disciplinary staff as well as to patients and their families. Provide leadership, guidance, and teaching to the junior NP/PA staff, PA and medical students, as well as residents rotating in the units. Assist APP manager with formulation of policies within the ACCM department and other administrative matters. Serve as a sub-investigator for clinical trials. Additional Skills

Advanced clinical skills and have demonstrated the ability to apply theoretical concepts as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team providing care to patients and their families. Ability to diagnose patients and to implement a medical care plan for the long-term and short-term care of acute and chronic health conditions in the intensive care unit. Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to function effectively and adapt to a dynamic and often changing work environment. Apply evidence-based decision-making when assessing and treating patients. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Collaborate with other services, other units, and other departments. Function with minimal supervision within the scope of practice as part of the critical care team Teach and mentor junior staff and rotating house-staff. Minimum Qualifications

Master\'s Degree in nursing; Registered Nurse license and certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification. Completion of the credentialing process prior to the start date. Must maintain current licensure and certification during employment. Additional experience may substitute for Master\'s Degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
