MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) is responsible for the safe, environmentally sound and efficient daily operation of various heavy equipment (front-end loaders, skid steers, vac trucks, street sweepers, bobcats, forklifts and aerial lifts) in maintaining a steady flow of municipal solid waste (MSW) from the tipping floor to the process line.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operates equipment in movement of MSW on tipping floor and loading MSW onto the RDF process lines, maintaining a steady flow of MSW to the process operation.
• Performs daily routine inspections of assigned equipment and fills out necessary log sheets according to procedures.
• Performs troubleshooting on equipment and reports all malfunctioning equipment through the issuance of work orders.
• Performs checks as required by the weekly activities book, the monthly critical items check list, etc.
• Maintains proper fuel, lubricant and oil levels for operation of assigned equipment.
• Performs lockout and tag out of equipment in support of maintenance activities.
• Maintains cleanliness of equipment and an orderly work area.
• Operates the OBW process system as directed.
• Performs additional tasks as directed by the Shift Supervisor, or his or her designee.
EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have successfully completed all demonstrations in the current Heavy Equipment Operator's Job Skill Demonstration Manual and have passed an oral and written HEO examination.
• New hires with previous experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment will be allowed a three-month period for completion of the job demonstration manual.
• Must have good communication skills.
• Must have a minimum of High school diploma or equivalent
