Summary
Under the general supervision of the Ink Department Lead, the Ink Technician supports the Press Team in the preparation of inks, solvents, and varnishes according to customer specifications. This role is responsible for mixing, dispensing, and replenishing ink supplies while maintaining consistency, quality, and compliance with all safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare production equipment, including dispensing ink, varnish, solvents, and pumps, in accordance with established procedures. Verify solvent levels, assemble pumps to specifications, and properly label drum covers by press unit, color, and ink number. Mix inks and solvents to specifications, replenishing and adjusting ink supply as required to maintain color consistency and viscosity. Maintain inventory of consignment and work-off inks, ensuring accurate documentation. Monitor ink viscosity using test methods and provide feedback to production personnel. Weigh, measure, and prepare batches of ink components according to formulas. Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures for safety, environmental health, and hazardous material handling. Consistently use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing job duties. Properly handle and store hazardous materials, including spill cleanup and safe disposal. Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following housekeeping and equipment maintenance standards. Assist press crews with ink-related needs and equipment support when required. Ensure timely and accurate completion of required paperwork. Promote positive team relations and actively participate in training, safety, and quality initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements High school diploma or GED. Minimum 2 years of experience in a printing or packaging environment. Strong knowledge of inks, color matching, and ink dispensing equipment. Basic computer skills required. Physical Demands Ability to lift up to 60-100 lbs as required. Prolonged periods of standing, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, and reaching. Manual dexterity to safely handle products and equipment. Must have good vision (close, distance, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment). Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, and extended hours as needed to meet production requirements. Comfort working in repetitive functions and physically demanding conditions.
