Overview
Harold and Associates, LLC is looking for a full-time Dental Hygienist to provide dental services for the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS). Business hours are Monday through Friday (7:30am – 4:00pm and 8:00am to 4:30pm) excluding Federal holidays.
Responsibilities
- Receive scheduled patients, complete preliminary dental examinations on new patients and review medical and dental history for evidence of conditions that may affect dental hygiene treatment.
- Examine teeth and surrounding tissues for plaque and periodontal disease; inspect the mouth and throat for evidence of disease; interpret routine x-rays and present findings to the dentist.
- Prepare dental hygiene treatment plans including assessment, required oral hygiene care, and appointment sequencing.
- Provide routine and advanced prophylactic treatment, remove calculus deposits and stains by deep scaling, root planing and curettage under local anesthetic; polish teeth and apply fluoride for caries prevention and hypersensitivity.
- Collaborate with periodontal consultants and staff dentist for advanced periodontal cases and assist in pre- and post-operative care.
- Instruct patients at chairside on oral hygiene and tailor home care instructions to individual needs.
- Explain the causes of periodontal disease and tooth decay and the importance of diet and hygiene as it relates to oral and systemic health.
- Take radiographs (bitewings, periapical, and panoramic) and ensure equipment maintenance according to infection control guidelines.
- Manage a dental disease prevention program for patients with special problems and coordinate follow-up care.
- Maintain sutures, impressions, and study casts; assist in fabricating mouth guards or special trays for fluoride application as needed.
- Maintain the patient recall system for continuous follow-up treatment.
- Use VAGLAHS Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and DRM Plus to input patient data and hospital reports.
- Maintain and clean dental equipment and spaces according to Infection Control policies, OSHA and RME guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned by the Site Manager.
Qualifications
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from a school accredited by the American Dental Association.
- Current unrestricted license from the State of California.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a dental hygienist.
- Current BLS and/or CPR card; current TB test.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a PIV Card/Security Badge.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Compensation
Hiring hourly rate of pay: $58.00 per hour. This position is regulated by the Department of Labor (DOL) as a Service Contract Act (SCA) contract. H&W dollars are provided for eligible hours and offset the employer’s benefit costs.
