Overview

The telemetry monitor technician/observer is responsible for critically monitoring the cardiac rhythms of multiple patients on the cardiac monitor, promptly reporting rhythm changes to the appropriate registered nurse with escalation until a confirmation response is received. The role also functions as a hospital unit clerk (HUC), providing effective communication with patients, families, visitors, and hospital staff, handling reception, phone communications, clerical supplies, and maintaining a clean work area. Employees are expected to complete unit competency assessments, annual safety reviews, and continuing education units as required by hospital policy. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor multiple patients’ cardiac rhythms on the telemetry system and identify rhythm changes.
• Promptly report changes to the appropriate registered nurse with escalation until confirmed.
• Maintain telemetry box equipment and verify that the telemetry box in use matches the cardiac monitor.
• Print rhythm strips and perform rhythm analyses with competency.
• Serve as a hospital unit clerk: greet and assist patients and families, direct visitors, coordinate phone communications, manage clerical supplies/inventory and forms, and maintain a clean workspace.
• Respond to patient and staff inquiries and escalate issues as needed.
• Complete unit competency assessments and annual safety reviews; maintain continuing education units if applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of patient care and unit operations.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Basic arrhythmia class with certification for COU/ICCU
• BLS

Compensation

Pay Range: $24.00 - $29.90 per hour
