Responsibilities
New York Institute of Technology - Division of Campus Dining seeks a part-time Barista to work at our cafe on the Long Island campus. Responsibilities include:
- Operate and serve coffee beverages with an espresso machine and follow Starbucks recipes to prepare beverages in a timely manner.
- Have all drink bases, coffees, milk, and other items needed for operation of the "We Proudly Serve Starbucks" program at the start of each shift.
- Maintain and clean espresso machines, cold brew machines, coffee brewers, and other related equipment on a daily and weekly schedule.
- Communicate with shift lead and Culinary Operations Manager to ensure items needed for the next day are ready at the end of each shift.
- Stay up to date on seasonal Starbucks offerings and opportunities.
- Weekly ordering of items for the Starbucks coffee bar area and other cafe items.
- Ensure cashier station is ready for service at the designated time.
- Maintain a log of errors and customer returns; report entries to supervisor daily.
- Customer Service: Greet customers, provide prompt, courteous service, respond to comments, and assist with cafe offerings as needed.
- Front of House Duties: Replenish and clean grab-and-go areas, set up Salad bar station, ensure equipment is operational, and maintain sanitation and closing procedures.
- Serve as backup to cooks, assist with stocking and serving food to students.
- Document inventories and restocking needs with the kitchen staff; manage low-inventory items and restocking duties.
- Maintenance and Cleaning: Daily cleaning duties, operate dishwasher, clean equipment, and dispose of leftovers; comply with sanitation guidelines (HACCP).
- Complete sanitation checklists, document cleaning days, and schedule maintenance for espresso and coffee brewers.
- Work in other areas on campus as needed (cafés, kiosks, events) and be flexible with positions and schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent (or combination of education and experience with comparable knowledge and skills). Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to perform basic mathematics. Advanced computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, basic computer knowledge).
Physical requirements: While performing the duties of this job, standing for extended periods is common; occasional lifting up to 40 pounds may be required.
