Departmental Overview The lab is renowned for its pioneering role in the development of CRISPR-Cas9 technology and its ongoing contributions to advancing genome editing. Drawing on deep expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology, and structural biology, the Doudna Lab explores fundamental mechanisms of gene regulation and RNA biology. In collaboration with institutions such as the Innovative Genomics Institute and Gladstone Institutes, the lab's research aims to unlock transformative solutions for treating genetic diseases, improving food security, and addressing global health and environmental challenges. Position Summary
This Staff Research Associate II provides a variety of support and research functions within the lab. Primary responsibilities include: Assist lab members with molecular biology techniques, tissue culture techniques, and animal handling; culture and maintain pluripotent stem cell cultures (hPSCs), including passaging stem cell clones, isolation of genomic DNA, and genotyping cells by PCR and sequencing. Support a large-scale hPSCs genome engineering workflow that involves genome editing, project tracking, quality control of reagents and materials, and report writing. Work on various research projects involving planning, designing and conducting experiments, analyzing results and interpreting data under the supervision of the PI. Assist with duties such as autoclaving, ordering and restocking lab supplies, and managing protocols to ensure lab safety and protocol compliance. The SRA will culture and maintain pluripotent stem cell cultures (hPSCs), including passaging, isolating DNA, and genotyping by PCR and sequencing. Support a large-scale genome engineering workflow, including genome editing, project tracking, reagent and vector quality control, and report writing. Apply standard molecular biology, tissue culture techniques, and rodent handling as needed. Assist with maintenance and characterization of human stem cell cultures and genotyping, including DNA isolation and PCR amplification for sequence analysis. Maintain thorough records in laboratory notebooks and participate in weekly lab meetings to align with project objectives. Assist with protocol optimization and testing of tissue culture and molecular biology methods, such as differentiation or staining protocols. Work with the PI and other lab members to plan, design, conduct experiments, and interpret results. Troubleshoot experiments including PCR and genotyping. Provide lab support duties such as autoclaving waste and ordering/restocking supplies; assist with protocol renewals and safety inspections. Required Qualifications
Experience with sterile tissue culture techniques, PCR, basic lab maintenance duties, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience with molecular biology techniques, knowledge of lab safety procedures, ability to design and conduct experiments and analyze data. Experience with lab automation, knowledge of material and information tracking in large-scale experiments. 1-year (cumulative) experience in a biology research laboratory. Bachelor's degree in life sciences or related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Biochemistry. Salary & Benefits

Under California law, UC Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside the range posted in this job announcement. The budgeted annual salary range for this position is $60,245.54 (Step 1) - $70,606.25 (Step 9). This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position eligible for UC Benefits.
