Overview
The Future Talent Program features Cooperative (Co-op) education that lasts up to 6 months and includes one or more projects. These opportunities in our Research and Development Division provide development opportunities and a chance to see if the company aligns with long-term goals. Our Company Research Laboratories is a scientific research facility advancing discovery capabilities and small molecule and biologics R&D to create breakthrough science for serious diseases. The Discovery Immunology group in San Diego offers a unique experience contributing to early-stage drug discovery. Co-op students join a collaborative and innovative scientific culture focused on learning new biology and chemistry and developing technologies that drive therapeutic development. Students will be exposed to immunology at the San Diego site and other Company sites, with access to a proven global research and development organization and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues while expanding their careers. Co-op students will work within a diverse group studying the role of novel targets in inflammatory and autoimmune indications. This is an opportunity for BS, MS, and PhD level individuals with immunology, cell biology, and/or molecular biology experience to learn and perform techniques including culturing primary human cells and cell lines, CRISPR editing, biochemical assay development, ELISA and other cytokine-based assays, RNA isolation and qPCR, and flow cytometry/FACS and microscopy. Successful candidates will have opportunities to develop professional networks. We seek Co-op candidates with strong academic performance, communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to work in a multi-functional environment. Location: San Diego, CA Co-op position commitment: 4-6 months full-time – January through June 2026 Responsibilities
Collaborate in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced scientific environment to support immunology-focused projects. Learn and apply techniques including culturing cells, CRISPR editing, biochemical assays, ELISA and other cytokine-based assays, RNA isolation and qPCR, and flow cytometry. Contribute to experimental design, data collection, and result interpretation under supervision. Develop professional networks and communicate findings with team members. Qualifications
Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies in biological sciences or a related field through the Co-op term. Available for a 6-month period starting at the beginning of 2026 and able to work full-time on-site in San Diego, CA. Preferred: basic knowledge of cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, and related wet lab techniques; experience with mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, and/or immunoassays; strong initiative and teamwork; excellent oral and written communication; proficiency with Windows-based applications; GPA of 3.2 or higher.
