Overview
Stanford University, in partnership with iHire, invites applications for a Life Science Research Professional 1 (1 year fixed term) in the Bowling Lab to study cell lineage formation and plasticity during mammalian embryogenesis.
Responsibilities
Plan and carry out experiments, analyze data, interpret and discuss findings with team members, troubleshoot experiments, and develop protocols.
Work with the team to create new tools for understanding mechanisms of tissue resilience and embryonic responses to perturbation.
Perform lab management activities, including maintaining and organizing lab stock; managing chemical inventory and safety records; unpacking reagent deliveries; managing and maintaining mouse colonies; performing mouse genotyping; and providing general lab support as needed.
Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.
Review literature on an ongoing basis to stay current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.
Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of protocols, presentations, and publications.
Other duties may also be assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a biology-related discipline (required).
Knowledge/experience with (or willingness to learn): molecular biology (DNA cloning, PCR, RNA handling); mammalian cell culture; flow cytometry and cell sorting; computational skills including Python programming.
Mouse handling experience desired but not required; must be comfortable working with mice.
Strong interest in biology and a demonstrated enthusiasm and curiosity about science.
General understanding of scientific principles; ability to apply theoretical knowledge to problem solving; ability to maintain detailed records; general computer skills and ability to learn new software quickly; ability to work under deadlines; excellent organizational skills.
Certifications & Licenses: None.
Education & Experience (required) Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field.
Working Conditions May require working in close proximity to blood-borne pathogens; may involve work around animals used for teaching and research; may require work with hazardous materials or infectious diseases; PPE required; extended or unusual work hours may be needed based on research requirements.
Physical Requirements Frequently stand, walk, bend, twist, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform desk-based computer tasks; vision must be correctible; ability to work for extended periods and in environments with dust or odorous substances.
