Overview

The Department of Developmental Biology is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 (1 year fixed term) to join the Bowling Lab to help understand cell lineage formation and plasticity during mammalian embryogenesis. The Bowling Lab investigates how mammalian embryos tolerate major perturbations in development and aims to harness resilience mechanisms in disease, ageing, and regeneration. We use classical embryological approaches together with next-generation tools, including in vivo barcoding mouse models that enable tracing millions of cells during development or adulthood. The position offers direct mentorship from Dr. Bowling and involvement with multiple ongoing projects in the lab. Note: Applications should be submitted via the Stanford web portal and CV and cover letter may be sent directly to the lab contact. Responsibilities

Plan and carry out experiments, analyze data, interpret and discuss findings with team members, troubleshoot experiments, and develop protocols. Work in teams to create tools for understanding mechanisms of tissue resilience and embryonic responses to perturbation. Perform lab management activities: maintaining and organizing lab stock, managing chemical inventory and safety records, unpacking reagent deliveries, maintaining mouse colonies, performing mouse genotyping, and providing general lab support as needed. Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques. Review literature to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research. Contribute to publication of findings as needed and participate in the preparation of protocols, presentations, and publications. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a biology-related discipline. Knowledge/experience or willingness to learn in areas including: Molecular biology (DNA cloning, PCR, RNA handling) Mammalian cell culture Flow cytometry and cell sorting Computational skills (Python programming) Mouse handling experience desired but not required; comfortable working with mice General understanding of scientific principles; demonstrated ability to apply knowledge to solve problems; ability to maintain detailed experimental records. General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master software, databases, and scientific applications. Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance; strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Education & Experience

Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
