Position Summary
The Academic Dean is a dynamic instructional leader responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, and providing feedback to teachers. Academic Deans lead weekly PLC meetings, using data to promote reflection, provide guidance and establish clear action steps for teachers. It is vital that Academic Deans focus on building teacher strengths, ensuring collaboration and effectively addressing areas of growth in teachers to positively impact academic outcomes for students across the network. Academic Deans will also carry out administrative duties as determined by the school principal.
Position Qualifications & Competencies
Belief in the mission and values of InspireNOLA;
Bachelor’s degree (required), Master’s degree in related field (preferred);
Track record dramatically improving academic outcomes for students;
Strong instructional background, preferably as a curriculum designer, school leader, or design consultant;
At least two years of Academic Dean experience and/or proven ability to lead adults to achieve goals.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with school staff and administrative teams;
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities PLC Planning and Implementation
Lead and join weekly PLC meetings that follow the STEPS for Effective Learning;
Develop a yearly plan for PLC groups, and a process for maintaining weekly PLC group meeting records;
Provide appropriate follow-up with teachers in the classroom after PLC meetings, including observation/feedback sessions, modeling lessons, co-teaching lessons;
Provide teachers with effective teaching strategies and best practices;
Assess all PLC groups’ progress toward goals;
Plan and conduct data meetings which focus on student work analysis
Observation, Coaching and Feedback
Engage teachers in 1-on-1 coaching sessions to address individual areas for improvement;
Build teacher skills based on evaluation data and classroom observations;
Support individual teachers with interventions to improve instruction and academic outcomes;
Conference with teachers regarding instruction, data, and student growth;
Build teacher proficiency through ongoing coaching and specific strategies;
Ensure progression of teacher skill development as aligned with student learning needs;
Build individual teacher content knowledge and skills.
Curriculum Ordering, Design, and Implementation
Assist with coordinating and planning effective school-level and network-level professional development;
Support student learning data analysis, ensuring schools have access and training to effectively utilize the data to increase and enrich student learning;
Support the vision-setting process for curriculum materials;
Research best practices by leveraging high-quality instructional strategies and methods;
Support implementation of tier one curricula, vertically aligned, and made accessible to teachers allowing for efficient and effective pacing, sequencing, and lesson planning;
Organize and share quality instructional methods and materials with the purpose of encouraging collaboration amongst instructional staff members.
Assessment Analysis and Design
Review assessment tools used by teachers on a regular and ongoing basis and analyze performance for effectiveness in improving student achievement.
Assist in the development, scheduling, and administration of assessments at the school level throughout the school year.
Facilitate data meetings with teachers
Leadership Team Participation
Actively participate and co-facilitate the School Leadership Team meetings that focus on analyzing student data to identify student learning goals;
Participate in development of a school academic achievement plan and creation of a school assessment plan;
Monitor goal setting, activities, classroom follow-up and goal attainment for PLC groups;
Assess teacher evaluation results for tiered coaching support; and maintain inter-rater reliability
Compensation & Benefits Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. A comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as TRSL, our employer retirement contribution, is included.
