The Health Science Department Chair provides academic and administrative leadership for all Health Science programs, ensuring excellence in curriculum delivery, faculty support, student success, and program compliance. This role oversees day-to-day operations, fosters partnerships with clinical sites, manages accreditation and regulatory requirements, including Council on Occupational Education (COE) compliance, and drives continuous improvement to align with industry standards and institutional goals. Position Summary Key Responsibilities
Academic Leadership
Oversee the planning, coordination, evaluation, and assessment of Health Science instructional programs. Develop, implement, and maintain curriculum aligned with industry standards, COE and Florida Board of Nursing (FBON) requirements, and institutional goals. Initiate curriculum and program improvements to reflect emerging healthcare trends and best practices. Support licensure and certification preparation (e.g., NCLEX-PN) by monitoring outcomes and implementing strategies for student success. Faculty and Student Support
Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty to ensure high-quality instruction and professional development. Assign teaching responsibilities and provide instructional guidance. Advise and support students to promote academic success, retention, and program completion. Oversee student enrollment, progression, and graduation requirements across all Health Science programs. Administrative and Compliance Oversight
Plan and manage the yearly instructional calendar, including start and end dates for each cohort. Ensure compliance with all student medical requirements prior to clinical placement, including immunizations, PPD, background checks, and drug screening. Ensure compliance with clinical site requirements, institutional policies, and accreditation standards. Maintain accurate data on student progress, program retention, completion, placement, and licensure outcomes. Prepare and maintain documentation required for COE accreditation, FBON standards, program reviews, and annual reports. Manage departmental resources, including budget planning, equipment purchasing, and bookstore coordination. Clinical Coordination
Establish and maintain strong partnerships with healthcare facilities for student clinical placements. Coordinate student schedules, faculty assignments, and site compliance requirements. Serve as liaison between the college and clinical partners to ensure positive collaboration and compliance. Strategic Planning and Development
Lead departmental initiatives in alignment with institutional and COE requirements. Identify opportunities for new programs, pathways, and community partnerships to meet workforce needs. Participate in institutional committees, planning groups, and accreditation visits. Continuously evaluate and improve departmental processes to increase efficiency and student success. Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree in Nursing, or higher. Active RN license. Minimum of 3–5 years of teaching and/or administrative experience in higher education. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Seniority level
