Assistant Director of Youth Ministry

Location: Seattle, WA. Full-time role focused on supporting youth ministry across parishes, with collaboration across teams to provide formation, resources, and experiences for youth and young adults.
General Introduction The Archbishop guides the administration of the archdiocese to coordinate affairs for the good of the people of God. Each position, including this role, extends the archbishop’s ministry in specific ways as outlined in the position description.
General Summary Of Essential Purpose (Youth Ministry) The
Assistant Director of Youth Ministry Services
supports the Lifelong Formation Department. This position collaborates with team members, parishes, and other identified groups to provide support, formation, and resources for all youth, including those from multicultural communities, to grow in their relationship with Jesus and engage as missionary disciples. The role helps ensure archdiocesan youth ministry efforts align with the mission and vision of the Church as communicated by the Archbishop.
Essential Position Duties
Organize and conduct multi-parish, multi-cultural archdiocesan events for middle school and high school youth, such as the Catholic Youth Convention, Middle School Encounter, archdiocesan Confirmation Retreats, and local versions of national and global Church events. Collaborate with the Vocations office to provide an annual prayer retreat for high school juniors, seniors, and recent graduates.
Expand current event offerings to include mission trips and immersion experiences for youth.
Co-moderate the Archdiocesan Youth Council and collaborate with the Director of Youth Ministry Services to plan and facilitate the Council’s meetings and retreats.
Assist as needed with the formation and scheduling of Cristo Rey student associates.
Work with the Director of Youth Ministry Services to provide ongoing consultation, training, formation, and general support to parish youth ministries.
Assist in the development of workshops, trainings, and formation opportunities for youth and young adult ministers.
Serve as the coordinator for Youth and Young Adult Ministry certificate programs offered through Christifideles.
Support the work of consultative bodies of youth ministers and clergy in developing youth ministry policies, initiatives, and activities.
Maintain an environment of inclusion, trust, and acceptance that embraces young people and families from different cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Essential Qualifications
Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of collaboration between lay and ordained ministers.
Be a practicing Catholic, completely faithful to the Church and the Magisterium, and have a strong and disciplined prayer life.
Possess a heart for the New Evangelization.
Bilingual preferred.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in theology, Religious Studies, Youth Ministry, or other related field preferred.
Experience
Demonstrated ability to evangelize and communicate the faith.
Knowledge of and experience in retreats, event planning, and leadership development for youth.
Experience working with people from varying ecclesial, economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
Experience in supporting committees and leadership groups preferred.
Other Elements
Excellent written and verbal communications skills, ideally in more than one language.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint).
Competence in digital communications tools.
Ability to work collaboratively with Chancery staff, school personnel, pastors, and parish ministers.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Valid Washington State driver’s license and transportation.
