Department Overview Risk and Safety Services comprises five departments dedicated to health and safety of the campus community. The UCSC Office of Risk Services is a department within Risk and Safety Services in the Division of Finance, Operations and Administration. Risk Services helps departments identify risk exposures, recommends mitigation strategies, and administers campus insurance programs. The goal is a safe, healthy, thriving campus community.

Job Summary Under the supervision of the Director of Risk Services and Occupational Health, the BIT Case Coordinator will coordinate and support the work of the University Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). The position brings knowledge of behavioral risk identification and assessment, assists in referring individuals to services, and promotes effective communication across offices and programs involved in behavioral evaluation, support, threat assessment, and management.

Appointment Information Budgeted Salary: 83,000 - 91,320 annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications, and experience. California law requires posting a reasonable estimate of compensation. The salary posted is the budgeted amount and should not be exceeded.

Job Duties 70% – CASE COORDINATION

Reviews the BIT database daily and screens new cases.

Provides analyses for complex data systems and resource projects.

Completes an Intake form for each new case and enters it into the secure database.

Develops and implements a secure BIT database.

Manages case/supporting coordination and triage process.

Documents all BIT processes, case management plans, and follow-ups.

Stores all communications, records, and documents according to confidentiality requirements.

Emails or texts the BIT to notify of urgent changes in case status or to arrange ad hoc meetings.

Follows up on action items from meetings.

Coordinates and enlists external resources and experts for case analysis and management.

Maintains an up-to-date list of core and adjunct BIT members and relevant contacts.

30% – RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING

Researches, monitors, and analyzes regulations, legislation, research literature, and UC policies for impact on the organization or initiative.

Researches and summarizes best practices in the field.

Conducts post-implementation analysis to determine the need for further enhancements and processes.

Works with BIT staff to develop proposals and recommendations for broader strategic direction.

Coordinates implementation with cross-organizational departments or external entities as needed.

Researches and drafts complex proposals, reports, and briefings; maintains internal and external contacts for data exchange.

Develops scope of work and reports for project requirements.

Makes recommendations on development and implementation of coordinated response systems.

May coordinate training of location department points of contact.

Develops educational materials with BIT and other campus departments for training audiences.

Keeps records and maintains confidentiality of reports per UC policy and privacy laws.

Assists with Workplace Violence Prevention Plan research and case coordination.

Manages program development with risk analysis and research coordination.

Develops and coordinates risk programming and analysis.

Implements campus education and outreach programs related to violence prevention, as applicable.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience or training.

Experience with employee assistance programs to provide resources to clients in distress.

Experience managing responses to crisis situations and/or risk analysis.

Cross-cultural communication skills and experience interacting with diverse constituents in a culturally competent manner.

Knowledge of common computer applications.

Thorough knowledge of the behavioral intervention profession, insurance, and/or risk assessment.

Ability to gather and analyze information, write reports, and present findings clearly.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively and maintain confidentiality of reports per policy and privacy laws.

Ability to multi-task, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multiple investigations.

Ability to apply policy and legal concepts to issues.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in insurance, public health, or related field.

Broad knowledge of university policies, including employee assistance programs.

Prior higher education experience.

Special Conditions of Employment

Ability to work long periods at a computer; on-site work required.

Complete required UC compliance training within established time frames.

Vaccination policy compliance required.
