SHS offers primary ambulatory care, psychosocial support, and a full range of student health services with a multidisciplinary team.

JOB SUMMARY Under the general direction of the Associate Medical Director and/or Medical Director, the Physician provides primary ambulatory care and telehealth services as part of the Student Health Services healthcare team. The incumbent assesses health status, evaluates and manages illnesses or injuries, provides initial psychological evaluation, promotes wellness, disease prevention, and health education, and coordinates appropriate follow-up care, referrals, and case management. The Physician serves 16-20 patients per day and participates in committees and continuous improvement efforts focused on patient-centered care.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION Budgeted Salary:

$234,000 - $273,000 (full-time, 12 months). For part-time, $19,500 - $22,750 per month proportional to time and months worked. Salary is commensurate with skills and experience.

Schedule Information:

Percentage of Time: 80%-100%, 32-40 Hours per Week

JOB DUTIES 80% - Medical Care

Provides direct patient care, including in-person and telehealth visits, in the Student Health Center clinic

Provides clinical assessment and management of routine health problems, episodic acute illnesses and stable chronic illnesses, minor injuries, routine gynecologic care, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections

Evaluates and manages depression and anxiety in collaboration with counseling and psychiatric services

Makes appropriate referrals

Completes timely documentation in the medical record per UCSC SHS policies

10% - Collaboration

Works with clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, and support staff to provide efficient care

Participates in Quality Management and other committees

Contributes to special projects and outreach as requested

Supports smooth service functioning, may include occasional nights or weekends

10% - Supervision and Teaching

Supervises mid-level practitioners, cosigns charts, provides feedback, and may teach clinical issues

Participates in clinical conferences and case presentations

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Current MD or DO California medical license in good standing; Board Certification or eligibility in a primary care specialty; Current DEA Registration; NPI; CA CURES Registration

Excellent generalist ambulatory care skills; urgent care skills and competence in minor outpatient procedures

Experience with multidisciplinary teams

Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

Understanding of patient-centered care

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 3 years post-residency experience

Experience with diverse populations and gender-affirming care; college health experience

POCUS (Point of Care Ultrasound) experience

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-hire background and credentialing checks; pre-hire employment disclosure

Graduate of an accredited medical school; California medical license in good standing

CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 60 days

TB testing within 60 days; HIPAA training within 30 days

On-site work hours; willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends

Ability to wear a respirator; read and understand English labels and MSDS; comply with SHS safety requirements

UC vaccination policy compliance

CANRA mandated reporter requirements
