Role Description
The Head of R&D Ops reports directly to our CTO and plays a critical role in enabling strategy execution, effective communication, collaboration, budget management, and special projects within the R&D organization. This role ensures the CTO organization operates smoothly so the CTO can focus on strategic leadership and technology vision. The role reports to the CTO and is part of the CTO leadership team and the company’s senior leadership team.
Responsibilities
Operational Efficiency Maximize organizational effectiveness in meeting budget and resourcing projects. Manage the R&D budget and resources, ensuring optimal allocation and utilization across teams and projects. Serve as a single point of contact for key stakeholders, track and close open action items. Own the metrics for the organization, track status, and visualize progress through dashboards. Lead specific Engineering meetings, including setting agendas and providing insights for strategic conversations. Document and communicate decisions and action items from meetings, ensuring follow-up and accountability. Strategy alignment and execution Assist the CTO in implementing their vision, managing the business, and addressing ad-hoc challenges. Align the R&D organization around goals related to the CTO’s vision and ensure cross-functional alignment with key R&D initiatives. Lead the creation and maintenance of an R&D roadmap and manage capacity planning in alignment with the roadmap. Collaboration & Communication Coordinate and facilitate cross-functional collaboration and communication between R&D and other departments such as product, engineering, marketing, sales, and customer support. Manage external and internal stakeholder relationships and alignment. Projects Identify and resolve issues or risks affecting delivery or quality of R&D projects and escalate to the CTO as needed. Monitor and evaluate performance and impact of R&D projects, providing regular feedback and reporting to the CTO and other executives.
Qualifications
Sharp critical thinking skills to solve business issues and communicate effectively. Strong data analytics skills and ability to transform data into insights and actions to drive execution. Deep understanding of SDLC (software development life cycle) processes. Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, capacity planning, and resource allocation practices. Experience in fast-paced, transformation-focused, global environments. Continuous learner with a continuous improvement mindset. Technology savvy. Business savvy – understands SaaS / cloud / AI-led business models and driving business growth, focused on EBITDA. A natural authentic, results-driven leader.
