Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) — Behavioral Health: A Joint Commission–accredited behavioral health system is seeking a robust Nursing Leader and hands-on Associate Chief Nursing Officer to lead inpatient psychiatric nursing across adult and adolescent units. This role is ideal for a solutions-oriented nursing executive who thrives on the unit, builds strong relationships with staff and providers, and influences change through credibility and data. Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day inpatient psychiatric nursing operations across adult and adolescent units; ensure safe staffing, quality care delivery, and regulatory readiness. Lead and mentor two DONs and their teams; build leadership bench strength, accountability, and engagement. Quality & Regulatory: Drive continuous performance improvement aligned with Joint Commission, DMH, and Massachusetts regulatory standards; own survey readiness and corrective action plans. Culture & Retention: Be consistently present on the units to listen, coach, and remove barriers; increase leader visibility and responsiveness; champion shared governance and recognition. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Build effective partnerships with psychiatry, social work, recovery specialists, and operations; foster open communication and joint PI initiatives. Partner with nursing education to ensure robust orientation, competency validation, and continuing education across all levels. Lead assigned initiatives and keep stakeholders informed on milestones, risks, and outcomes. Ideal Candidate Qualities

Influences cross-functionally and with the C-suite using evidence, empathy, and clear rationale; comfortable “managing up.” Change Leader: Steadies teams through transitions; sets clear expectations and follows through. Staff Advocate: Builds rapport, ensures access to leadership, and elevates frontline voices to drive sustainable improvements. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) required. Active RN license in any state with ability to obtain Massachusetts licensure. 3–5+ years at the Director level or above, preferably within an inpatient hospital setting. Minimum 3 years of inpatient psychiatric nursing experience. Demonstrated success in leading leaders, improving quality outcomes, and advancing regulatory readiness. Compensation & Benefits
