The Manager - Data Center Operations must possess expert knowledge and will be responsible for the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center electrical, mechanical, fire life safety systems, and communications infrastructure. The role is for the Swing Shift. Mechanical responsibilities include chilled water systems and components, HVAC systems (roof top units, CRAC/CRAH units, humidification). Electrical responsibilities include electrical/critical power distribution from the utility/generator main switchgear through the UPS to the customer load. Fire Life Safety responsibilities include wet sprinkler systems and pre-action sprinkler systems and their detection devices. Communications Infrastructure responsibilities include IDF/MDF/MMR management, structured cabling and supporting infrastructure ownership, and customer space management. The Manager is responsible for vendor management (daily work and service contracts), project management from conception to completion, commissioning activities, and MOP writing. The position requires responsibility for operational efficiency and energy management, developing and implementing strategies to improve data center efficiencies without increasing uptime risk. The role ensures compliance and audit adherence to company and industry standards. The Manager will serve as a training instructor, ensuring technicians are qualified and aware of code and standards revisions. The role supports budgeting and forecasting (OPEX/CAPEX) and ROI modeling. Procurement fulfillment, including developing scopes, proposals, requisitions, and invoice payment, rests with the technician. It is a people management role with shift management responsibilities, including evaluations, coaching, and regular meetings. On-call availability may be required for emergency response. Data center subject matter expert for electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems. Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems (Electrical, Mechanical, Building Monitoring, Control). Track and trend site efficiencies and energy consumption. Improve data center operational efficiency and cost reduction; cross-functional technical capability in integrated systems and IT. People manager responsible for shift assignments and time-off approvals. Training and mentoring of junior staff. Coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance with technicians and vendors. Determine maintenance requirements for mechanical and electrical systems with guidance from the site Data Center Operations Manager. Manage vendor relationships and service contracts; procurement and billing processes. Site budgeting and forecasting (CapEx and OpEx). Create detailed technical procedures for maintenance events and emergencies. Technical review of procedures and company standards/policies. Manage site audits (internal and external) and ensure compliance. Prevent unplanned outages and manage data floor/load capacity for cooling efficiency. Provide mechanical and integrated control expertise for the data center; utilize CMMS. Ensure SLA adherence; data uploaded to OSS as required. Provide day-to-day customer service and on-call support for emergencies. Promote CoreSite’s Operational Excellence and Guiding Principles; participate in special projects as assigned. Interaction with Others: This position interacts with CoreSite personnel, vendors, partners, contractors, and clients. Work Attributes Expert understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in data centers (distribution, transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS, PDU, chilled water, CRAC/CRAH, sprinkler systems). Expert knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes and building codes regarding fire life safety. Expert knowledge of fiber optics/cabling infrastructure and best practices. Expert knowledge of industrial safety practices (lockout/tagout, arc flash, OSHA etc.). Proficient in data trending/analysis and experience with critical monitoring systems. Energy efficiency best practices. Proficient in commissioning electrical, mechanical, protection, and controls systems. Skills 5-7 years in installing, maintaining, and/or troubleshooting large commercial/industrial systems: chilled water, large centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, water treatment, VFDs, pumps, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH, humidification, BMS/PLC controls, diesel generators, fuel/oil systems, distribution levels, UPS, pre-action systems, etc. Experiential in people management, leadership, vendor management, project management (budgeting, scheduling, scope, contracts). Budgeting and forecasting experience; strong communication skills; proficiency with Office suite and project tools. Abilities Effective communication with customers and internal staff. Coordinate and supervise contractors; address issues during regular and after hours. Quick learning and issue resolution; operate in a process-driven team environment. Logical problem solving and multi-tasking across projects. Operate hand and machine tools; use electrical testing tools. Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. 7+ years in mechanical/electrical roles within critical facilities (data center, hospital, or power plant preferred). 3-5 years administering facility preventive maintenance programs and budgets. 3-5 years vendor and project management; 3-5 years in technical procedure and policy writing; 3-5 years in people management. Successful background check and verification processes will be conducted. Physical Demands Stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; reach with hands/arms; speak, hear; manual dexterity for typing and handling; vision requirements; ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced environment; after-hours availability; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Compensation Base salary $100,000 - $110,000 annually, plus eligible for annual bonus and equity based on performance.
