Departmental Overview: The School of Information (I School) advances knowledge and practice in human-computer interaction, security and privacy, data science, and technology in developing regions. We offer professional master’s degrees (MIMS, MIDS, MICS) and a Ph.D. program. The Career Services Specialist will provide career counseling and placement assistance to students in the School of Information’s professional master’s degrees, and will plan, develop, and implement programs and advising focused on students’ career development. Lead Career Services activities for the MICS program. Provide career counseling and job-search assistance, help students develop career goals, and offer guidance on resumes, self-assessments, networking, and career pathways in cybersecurity, data science/analytics, engineering, product management, user experience, policy, and related fields. Build a community within the I School to support peer networking and engagement. 30%
Serve as a Career Services Specialist for the other I School professional degree programs. 15%
Design and implement career-related workshops, webinars, and mentorship/networking programs for students and alumni, with emphasis on programs that enhance career services (e.g., Immersion). 10%
Establish and cultivate relationships with campus, industry, professional organizations, and employers related to career services for students and alumni. 5%
Develop, oversee, and analyze surveys on career outcomes for students and alumni. 5%
Manage program improvement processes. Required Qualifications
Advanced degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Advanced knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer and alumni needs, recruiting, and employment trends. Strong ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs; excellent verbal and written communication and organization skills. Ability to work with people from diverse cultures. Knowledge of human behavior, performance, and learning/motivation (e.g., MBTI, CliftonStrengths). Advanced knowledge of career decision making and job search techniques. Advanced knowledge of the technology industry job market in information sciences and related fields. Working knowledge of industries interested in information sciences (healthcare, finance, consulting, retail, etc.). Knowledge of hiring practices and recruiting/staffing for mid to senior professionals and current employment trends. Advanced knowledge of LinkedIn, Slack, and other social media tools. Strong problem-solving, presentation, communication, and organizational skills; excellent judgment with sensitive information handling. Salary & Benefits

The budgeted salary range is $82,800 to $116,300 yearly; the full salary range is $82,800 to $149,800 yearly. This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits.
