University of California, Berkeley The Career Services Specialist will provide career counseling and placement assistance to students in the School of Information's professional master’s programs. They will work with students, alumni, and potential employers to plan, develop, and implement programs, activities, counseling, and advising focused on students' career development.
Overview
Department: School of Information (I School). The I School advances knowledge and practice around how humans interact with digital technologies, with programs in HCI, security and privacy, data science, and information policies. We offer Master of Information Management and Systems (MIMS), Master of Information and Data Science (MIDS online), Master of Information and Cybersecurity (MICS online), and a Ph.D. program.
Responsibilities
35%: Lead Career Services for the MICS program, provide career counseling, assist with job search processes, help students build their personal brand, explore career pathways, network, and foster a supporting community among students, alumni, and faculty. 30%: Provide career services for the other I School professional degree programs. 15%: Design and develop career-related workshops, webinars, and mentorship/networking programs for students and alumni across all I School Masters programs (with emphasis on programs that enhance career services capabilities). 10%: Build relationships with campus and industry organizations and employers related to career services (e.g., CLTC, Cyversity, NACE, UC Grad Services). 5%: Develop, oversee, and analyze surveys on career outcomes for students and alumni. 5%: Manage program improvement processes.
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Strong knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer/alumni/faculty needs, recruiting methods, and employment trends. Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs; strong presentation, verbal, written, and organizational skills. Ability to work with people from diverse cultures. Knowledge of human behavior and performance, learning and motivation, and career decision making; familiarity with the technology industry job market in information sciences and related fields. Experience with LinkedIn, Slack, and other social media tools. Excellent judgment in handling sensitive information.
Salary & Benefits
Budgeted salary: $82,800 to $116,300 yearly; full salary range for this classification is $82,800 to $149,800 yearly. 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits. This is an exempt, monthly-paid position.
Other Information
Hybrid schedule eligible, with a minimum of two days on campus per week.
