$42,619.20/yr - $71,011.20/yr Responsibilities
Schedule and pre-certify for both the physician and facility; verify insurance eligibility; review benefits (including co-pay and deductible) and document procedures for the hospital operating room and ambulatory surgery centers, as well as outside hospitals and surgery centers. Work with parents and other departments to schedule patients in a timely manner; ensure registrations, demographic and insurance information are correct. Verify guardianship/custody issues that might arise; coordinate vendor or specialized equipment required for the surgical procedure upon request. Coordinate with the surgeon’s and parents’ schedules (and other physicians if needed) to schedule procedures and tests; use Cerner or equivalent scheduling system to confirm and communicate details to families. Confirm and coordinate admissions or procedures with other departments per patient needs; follow up with families until the procedure is scheduled. Post cases in the Cerner system; maximize operating room block time utilization; obtain required authorization numbers for late rooms or open times; escalate problems to system managers as needed. Ensure registrations appear in the HBOC/Cerner system at least two days prior to the procedure; obtain necessary consents and verify documentation before the date of service. Provide peer support to other schedulers, share insurance notifications, and communicate cancellations or add-ons to relevant teams. Promote patient safety by maintaining accurate information, communicating clearly, and involving the team to resolve uncertainties. Participate in organizational accountabilities, including attention to detail, quality control, and ongoing process improvements. Qualifications
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED (Required) Minimum Work Experience:
3 years progressive experience performing patient registration and scheduling, medical insurance verification, preferably in a hospital or physician’s office as a receptionist (Required) Required Skills/Knowledge:
Proficient in Cerner and/or similar EMR systems; knowledge of CNHS HBOC and PPM/PSM systems; excellent verbal, interpersonal, and telephone skills; proficient knowledge of medical insurance verification, screening, financial counseling, billing, and healthcare business operations; working knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding; ability to multi-task and understanding of medical terminology.
