Position Summary The Controller is primarily responsible for the total financial affairs of the university, department, and programs. Additional responsibilities include translating past, present, and proposed information into meaningful reports for management and providing direct support to the CEO/President in budgeting and financial planning. The role involves evaluating procurements for compliance, monitoring expenses against budgets, recording and analyzing financial data for legality and accuracy, and identifying process improvements for the accounting system.

Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting
– Provide overview of A/R & A/P batch postings for sales, revenue, and payments; prepare daily cash reporting for CFO/President; perform bank reconciliations; run monthly review meetings to ensure proper invoicing and vendor costs; prepare or review month-end reconciliations; prepare financial statements and schedules for reporting and audit; manage monthly P&L reporting; prepare division P&Ls; monitor vendor contracts and renewals; prepare and facilitate the annual audit process.
Financial Analysis & Strategic Support
– Prepare regular presentations to senior management on performance; manage budgeting, forecasting, operating plans, and modeling tools; review key revenue/expense categories and identify trends; lead annual budgeting and quarterly re-forecasting; coordinate with Facilities on contractor/vendor needs and renovations.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
Master’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 5 years of accounting experience. CPA or working towards it. Working knowledge of Excel and QuickBooks.
Proven experience as CFO, finance officer, or relevant role
Knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management
Experience with audit processes
Strong data analysis and forecasting skills
Proficient in MS Office and financial management software
Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
Leadership and organizational skills; excellent communication
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of college policies and procedures and ability to follow them
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial software
Understanding of accounting principles, financial markets, and reporting
Analytical thinking, budgeting, and decision-making ability
Strong written and verbal communication; ability to relate to a diverse population
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently while contributing to a team
Ability to interpret policies related to academic programs
Work Environment Office setting with general supervision. Travel and non-standard hours may be required.
Physical Requirements Generally sedentary with occasional lifting and manual dexterity requirements; ability to communicate effectively.
