Marketing and Communications Coordinator

The American Student Dental Association (ASDA) was founded in 1971 and is the largest dental student organization in the United States. With a membership of more than 22,000, ASDA represents 82% of dental students from all 73 dental schools. ASDA’s mission is to protect and advance the rights, interests and welfare of dental students. ASDA is located on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, with a staff of 14 and an operating budget of $4 million. The position is Hybrid based in Chicago with one mandatory office day per month. Position Overview The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will assist in advancing marketing and communication initiatives to drive membership, event attendance and brand awareness. They will aid in guiding the vision, strategy and tactics for communication and marketing initiatives, to consistently articulate and promote ASDA’s brand and mission. With the Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications, this individual will execute ASDA’s content strategy and brainstorm methods to create, repurpose and distribute content to different audiences while maintaining the ASDA voice. Position Responsibilities: Work with supervisor to develop, implement and evaluate annual communication strategies and marketing plans across ASDA audiences. Assist in the execution of association wide content strategy and in the development and maintenance of the ASDA voice. Track and use analytics to make recommendations on how to improve the user experience. Build upon ASDA’s social media strategy and own the production of social media content. Manage ASDA’s day to day presence on social media through posts, responses to direct messages and more. Create brand-aligned copy and graphics for email, e-newsletters, social media, asdanet.org and other avenues. Assist in maintaining an up-to-date Marcomm Calendar in company’s project management system. Serves as the co-staff liaison to the Council on Communications. Serve as the staff lead and point of contact for the photographer at ASDA national meetings. Manage signage needs for ASDA national meetings. Oversee the mobile application for ASDA national meetings. Assist in video editing as needed. Fulfills other duties as assigned. Position Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism or related field Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in executing digital, marketing and content strategy. Association marketing communications experience preferred Experience in developing concise, engaging content for email, social media, e-newsletters, websites and more. Demonstrated project management experience, content development and digital marketing expertise. Produce effective and engaging copy and alter it for appropriate communication channels, as well as edit and proofread using A.P. style. Experience applying statistics and data to make marketing recommendations. Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects, shift gears quickly and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines Highly detail-oriented, solution-oriented approach to work Professional demeanor and communication with staff, students, and outside groups Comfortable balancing short- and long-term projects Skilled at working effectively across an organization; must be able to work with a small staff as part of a team Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Constant Contact and/or Sprout Social a plus but not mandatory. Some evening and weekend work required.
