Overview

Incumbent provides appropriate specialized developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in one or more Child and Youth (CY) programs. This includes guidance, assistance, and mentoring for CY Program Assistants. The incumbent works under the direction of the supervisor or other qualified higher graded employee who provides guidance on scope of assignments and assistance on more complex, nonroutine problems encountered. Responsibilities

Mentor CY Program Assistant team and work with senior employees to provide instruction and training to lower-level employees. Assist in completing the Standardized Module Training and translate professional development training into practice by mentoring and modeling. Plan and implement activities for program participants based on observed needs; coordinate with the T&C Specialist and supervisor to meet physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs; accommodate special dietary or other needs as directed by parents. Prepare program options for children and youth with special requirements; assist with homework and life skills; adjust activities as needed for unusual situations. Prepare indoor and outdoor environments, stock and secure supplies, and maintain equipment and facilities. Encourage positive interactions among participants and adults; apply approved child guidance and youth development techniques. Provide care and supervision in compliance with DoD, NAF, and local installation policies; manage arrival/departure and daily activity supervision; supervise field trips and events. Maintain professional communication with parents, employees, and installation personnel; participate in conferences and briefings as required. Observe and document developmental progress and plan accordingly; assist with assessment tasks as needed. Ensure compliance with DoD certification, national accreditation, laws, and regulations governing DoD CY programs. Collect, maintain, and report program participation data; perform other related duties as assigned. A complete list of duties will be provided at the time of hire. Requirements

This position is identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). Pre-employment and random drug testing required. Satisfactory completion of background checks for child care positions (fingerprint checks, Tier 1 Child Care check, State Criminal History Repository check). Must pass E-Verify employment verification; any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment. Must pass pre-employment physical, provide immunization evidence, be free of communicable diseases, and obtain required immunizations. Must obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance as needed. Ability to complete required training certificates and maintain certifications/credentials required by Federal, State, and national accreditation bodies used by DoD CY programs. Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer within the first 30 days of employment. Starting May 7, 2025, REAL ID-compliant identification or other acceptable form of ID is required to access installation facilities. Must provide copies of HS Diploma, GED, or college transcripts showing degree awarded; if degree not yet awarded, or if DoD competency training certificates exist, provide HS diploma or equivalent as well. Qualifications

Knowledge of developmentally appropriate programs for children and youth from 6 weeks to 18 years old. Knowledge of child and youth development principles, practices, and techniques. Ability to apply Federal and State laws governing detection and prevention of child abuse/neglect. Skill in understanding interests and motivations of individuals and groups in a CYP environment. Skill in program planning, organizing, and employee scheduling; ability to lead, mentor, and guide CY Program staff. Ability to identify and respond to emergency situations and to train employees on related issues. Ability to develop curriculum outlines and lesson plans/guides; strong English communication skills, both oral and written. One year of experience at CY-02 (GSE-04) level or equivalent in developmentally appropriate programming. Education

Completion of DoD Standardized Module Training AND 12 months experience at CY-II (GSE-04) level; OR Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Military School-Age (MSA) credential AND 12 months experience at CY-II (GSE-04); OR A minimum of a 2-year degree in Youth Development, Child Development, or a related field AND 12 months experience at CY-II (GSE-04). Must provide copies of HS Diploma, GED, or college transcripts as part of the application. Note:

If your degree has not been awarded and/or you possess certificates of completion for DoD-approved competency-based training, and/or a valid CDA/MSA credential, you must also provide a copy of your HS Diploma or equivalent. Additional information
