Job Summary
The Executive Director of Development provides strategic direction for all fundraising and advancement activities. This senior leadership position is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive development plan to secure significant philanthropic support for the College, particularly in support of its capital campaign priorities. As a key member of the College's leadership team, the Executive Director will lead and mentor a team including two development officers and a Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship. The role is responsible for executing ambitious fundraising goals by personally managing a portfolio of high-net-worth prospects and securing major ($50,000+) and principal ($1 million+) gifts. Additional responsibilities include providing executive leadership for the Dean's Advisory Council and alumni boards, fostering a culture of philanthropy, and building robust relationships with alumni, donors, and community partners to advance the mission of the College. Oversees and directs overall fundraising, special events, stewardship, board management and alumni relations for the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education. Assesses, negotiates funding needs, develops, and communicate a case for support. Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President of Development and the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education. Develops and executes the College's portion of the next comprehensive University campaign. Directs all fundraising activities relative to the assigned initiatives in the College. Initiates, plans and coordinates the development of donor cultivation, development of proposals and solicitations of gifts and grants at the major and principal gift levels specifically focused on the College. In partnership with the Dean, initiates, plans and coordinates the development of proposals (gifts and grants) and strategic individual solicitations over $50K focused on CASE. Provides professional fundraising guidance to the Dean and other academic and administrative leaders in defining external and community relations, stewardship, special events, fundraising and alumni relations priorities. Prepares and supports the Dean and other leaders in all development and alumni activities. Solicits support from previous and potential donors to the University. Manages a personal portfolio of individual and institutional leadership gift prospects and participate in their cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. In collaboration with the Office of Estate & Planned Giving, ensure a productive pipeline of planned gift donors to enhance long-term financial resources for CASE's priorities. Meets with potential donors on campus, nationally, and in the community. Travels nationally and internationally to meet with prospects. Attends meetings, gatherings or University sponsored events. Serves as the principal staff liaison to the Dean's Council, Alumni Boards, and School Advisory Boards and provides guidance on the recruitment of key alumni and community leaders to College of Arts, Sciences, and Education volunteer leadership positions. Supports industry relations efforts. Provides leadership in the stewardship and oversight of gifts and grants related to advancement within the assigned unit. Ensures the awarding of scholarship funds established by charitable donations in the college and for stewarding scholarship gifts of the college. Serves as a key member of the University Advancement team. Participates in university-wide prospect management, cultivation and stewardship of donors and prospects. Develops and implements a strategic work plan that focuses on the internal and external objectives of University Advancement and the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education. Ensures the cooperative participation of the College's Development staff in the University prospect management and tracking system. Develops and assists with the approval of fundraising publications and publicity materials for all fundraising programs in the College and recommends to the Dean for final approval. Utilize media channels and emerging technologies effectively to fundraise for the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education. Recruits, manages, supervises, motivates, trains, and retains experienced and competent professional and support staff in collaboration with University administrators. Implements management methods to achieve CASE's fundraising and donor relations & stewardship goals, including monitoring and assessment of performance. Ensures that the staff comply with University policies and standards. Develops and effectively administers departmental operating budget. May handle donated funds in the forms of checks or negotiable securities. Accesses confidential information regarding gifts and donors. Represents the University and/or the college at public functions as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
