About the Job
We are seeking an HR Manager/Sr Manager to be the cornerstone of our growing people function. As the sole HR professional in our organization, you will report to the VP of Finance and have the opportunity to build and shape HR practices from the ground up.

Job Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Hiring: Partner with hiring managers to draft and post job descriptions, host hiring kickoff meetings, configure interview phases, conduct phone screenings, and manage the offer process.
Onboarding & Offboarding: Serve as onboarding champion, ensure new hires are set up in HRIS, payroll, and benefits systems, and implement terminations, promotions, and other employee life cycle events.
Payroll & Compliance: Partner with Finance/Accounting to ensure payroll changes are accurate and timely, process payroll, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.
Employee Experience & Development: Design and manage the employee experience program, lead performance review cycles, partner with leadership to run engagement surveys, and support implementation of our career track guide.
Benefits & Employee Relations: Act as in-house benefits point of contact, administer benefits and payroll programs, and provide confidential support on employee relations matters.
Culture & Engagement: Partner with admin team to plan team-building events, champion culture and employee experience initiatives, and ensure our values scale alongside our growth.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field.
5+ years of HR experience in a fast-paced, scaling startup environment.
Experience supporting a company as it grew beyond 100 employees.
Able to work onsite in our Brooklyn, NY office.
Strong knowledge of HR processes, compliance, and labor laws.
Hands-on experience with HRIS, payroll, and ATS.
Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
A proactive mindset: able to think long-term while executing in the short-term.
Desired Qualifications
Familiarity with California, New York, and multi-state labor laws.
Experience managing performance review cycles, career development frameworks, and engagement surveys.
Prior experience as the first or sole HR hire in a startup or high-growth company.
Proven track record of implementing learning & development programs.
Demonstrated success as a cultural champion, scaling values and engagement through rapid growth.
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is $100K-$160K depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
