Principal Product Designer

Principal Designer at Roofstock, the leading end-to-end investment platform for single-family rental homes (SFR). Our mission is to make real estate investing radically accessible, cost-effective, and simple. We are seeking a Principal Designer to shape the product strategy, drive experience excellence, and advance our design systems. You will be a strategic partner and design leader, guiding product direction, elevating our design standards, and mentoring teammates. Responsibilities: Shape product strategy, partnering with peers to define product vision and influence roadmaps. Drive experience excellence, leading the design of complex, cross-platform experiences with a focus on clarity, accessibility, and delight. Advance design systems, leveraging and evolving our Design System to ensure consistency across platforms and touchpoints. Mentor and up-level the team, providing coaching, feedback, and thought leadership for designers. Champion the customer, using research, analytics, and user feedback to gain a deep understanding of user needs and translate insights into product innovation. Influence cross-org collaboration, building strong partnerships across product, engineering, and business and operations partners. Evangelize design, bringing a strong point of view on product design and inspiring the organization around the value of design and great user experiences. Execute at a high level, delivering high-fidelity visual and interaction designs in Figma. Push innovation, staying ahead of design and technology trends and bringing forward new ideas. Qualifications: Proven experience designing consumer-facing products, including data-heavy dashboards or metrics (10+ years of experience). A portfolio demonstrating strategic impact and excellent execution across multi-platform products. Mastery of Figma and experience evolving and scaling design systems. Experience influencing product direction and driving alignment across leadership. Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and advocate for design with teammates and stakeholders. Expertise in user-centered design principles and best practices. Skilled in strategic partnership, with the ability to help identify opportunities, refine problems and solutions, and deliver great customer experiences. Familiarity with front-end software development languages and practices, enabling smooth collaboration with engineers. Location and Compensation: This position is classified as HYBRID within the Greater Oakland Area, with an expectation to be in-office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The annual salary range is $185,000 - $220,000, depending on experience and location.
