Supplier Development Engineer, Ropes & Soft Goods Job at 1X in Hayward

Overview Supplier Development Engineer, Ropes & Soft Goods at 1X. Build the supply chain powering humanoid robots. 1X designs intelligent, safe humanoid robots and develops and manufactures components in-house. This role owns supplier development for ropes, technical textiles, soft-goods assemblies, and related connectivity systems that enable actuation in our humanoids. You will partner with world-class engineers and suppliers to ensure these materials and assemblies are designed, industrialized, and scaled to the highest quality standards, directly enabling the safe and reliable delivery of humanoids into the real world. What You’ll Do Partner with Engineering & Sourcing to qualify suppliers for ropes, technical textiles, and related assemblies Collaborate on DFM reviews, process optimization, and industrialization readiness Lead supplier validation from design through ramp-up (APQP, PPAP, IQ/OQ/PQ) Support tooling, fixture, and process qualification at supplier sites Drive supplier audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives Monitor supplier quality metrics and mitigate production risks Train suppliers on 1X’s quality systems and expectations Travel up to 40% (domestic and international) for supplier engagement and build support What You Bring Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Industrial, or related engineering field 6+ years in supplier quality, manufacturing, or supplier development (automotive, aerospace, or medical devices preferred) Hands-on experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, GD&T, CAPA, and 8D Proven record launching NPIs and scaling supplier processes Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent quality systems Strong collaboration skills and willingness to be hands-on at supplier sites Certifications (CQE, Six Sigma Green Belt, Lead Auditor) are a plus Additional Information Travel up to 40% for supplier engagement and build support.
