The Role
The Aggregator Hardware design team’s mission is to ensure our products are designed to target the growing needs of our customers while ensuring robust, well-designed hardware which meets GM specifications and testing requirements from early hardware through the production design. In this role you will be responsible for leading product development and integration activities.
Responsibilities of the Senior Hardware Design Engineer - Aggregator include utilizing engineering tools and processes to successfully develop components and systems for vehicle programs. You'll effectively achieve program milestones by thorough and effective program management. You will coach and lead suppliers to timely execution of program work with excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for Aggregator(s) electrical hardware design.
- Work closely with other teams, such as software engineers, mechanical engineers, and manufacturing teams, to ensure seamless integration of electrical hardware designs into the overall product.
- Lead embedded designs for advanced module architectures.
- Lead new IC design/development strategic to advanced in-vehicle architectures
- Lead electrical schematic design and PCB layout
- Assess the feasibility of proposed electrical hardware designs, considering factors such as cost, performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Support next generation designs in digital/analog hardware including Gig+ ethernet, processors, memory, eFuse, FET, HSD/LSD, various semi associated with Aggregators
- Perform/Review electrical worst case analysis
- Represent the GM HW team as design expert in the core technologies developed among the team
- Optimize five-point parametric tests and finalize end of line production tests
- Lead the process as a build-to-print engineer that also acts as a liaison with the contract house
- Apply cost effective solutions with improved performance design
- Lead product development as part of a multi hub engineering organizations based in Detroit and West Coast
- Refine/optimize requirements with MPG team
- Maintain Aggregator Hardware Design deliverables e.g., Block Diagram, Schematics, PCB layout, …
- Lead Peer Reviews and identify issues (e.g. integration, interfaces, systemic issues)
- Support Engineering Change Request (ECR) of Aggregators.
- Support Assembly Plant issue resolution
- Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting activities to support PRTS Issue Resolution
- Support Product Investigations (SFI Process)
- Lead Cost Reduction
- Provides guidance and consultation to Design Release Engineers (DREs) in product development team meeting
- Create and maintain Best Practices
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally within Aggregator team and across other SMTs.
- Collaborate and strategize with Aggregator TS, Electric Power (Sub)system TS, and Safety
- Ensure all vehicle Program Imperatives (i.e., piece cost, investment, mass, base engineering content & IPTV) involving these components are met.
- Work with DRE/Validation group to setup a plan for a component validation plan (includes component software verification) and ensure that the plan is executed in time to meet program imperatives.
- Participate in Formal Design, Peer and Quality Valve reviews as required by the Vehicle Development Process (VDP).
- Develop/Review/Approve all In-process Electrical test plans.
- Support vehicle integration activity for pre-production and production vehicles
- Lead/participate in issue resolution for design and development issues, ECU warranty analysis, parts restriction and report updates as required to Engineering and Vehicle Team leadership
- Lead/support DFMEA/PFMEA of Aggregator
Qualifications:
- Professional experience creating digital/analog HW interfaces including schematic creation and/or PCB layout & supportive documentation
- Minimum 7+ years working experience in automotive hardware electronics design
- Experience in design & analysis tools like Mentor Graphics (schematic & layout) MathCad, PSpice & Saber
- High speed Communication Buses (Ethernet, PCIe, SerDes…)
- In-depth knowledge of Low voltage power distribution (eFuse, FET, Thermal, LiB, DC/DC)
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering Required. Masters degree preferred
- In-depth knowledge of requirements engineering process (FMEA, Preliminary Hazard Analyses)
- In-depth knowledge of verification and validation processes
- In-depth knowledge of embedded software development, testing and associated tools
- Understanding of hardware design and failure mode
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
- Thorough knowledge of design development and test engineering, manufacturing and assembly operations, engineering processes and procedures.
- Highly developed oral and written communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally within Electrical and across other SMTs.
- Demonstrated problem solving ability.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output
- Very high level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous industry experience with infotainment, telematics or connectivity
- 7 years working experience in automotive hardware electronics design
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Mountain View, CA or Warren, MI three times (Tues., Wed., Thurs.) per week, at minimum.

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant in the California Bay Area which includes the following counties: Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz might be paid in accordance with the California law.
The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.
The annual salary range for this role is $121,000 - $186,200. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
