POSITION SUMMARY

The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating power industrial trucks to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise. The operator ensures safe and efficient operation and may perform Order Filler and Checker duties in addition to their own. Responsible for accurate storing, shipping, and receiving of product to meet safety, security, and productivity standards.

As part of the DSV team, associates are expected to meet company objectives in performance, safety, and quality, and to comply with all corporate and site-specific policies. They may be required to perform any combination of duties described below.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receiving/Put-Away: Unload inbound shipments safely, move product to storage locations, input data accurately into WMS; stack and store product; maintain an organized work area.
  • Order Picking: Pull and prepare for shipment, ensure exact quantity and type of product is loaded; pick efficiently to meet customer service standards; prepare freight for operations as required.
  • Quality: Ensure inbound/outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage; report quality variances.
  • Delivery: Move product from staging/storage to production lines or staging docks; ensure proper documentation accompanies freight.
  • Inventory: Maintain records to ensure tight inventory control and security; assist in physical inventories; ensure proper stock rotation.
  • Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance: Maintain a clean, neat, orderly work area and assist in warehouse security; comply with SOPs and policies.
  • Equipment Use: Load/unload/move/stack/stage product and materials using forklift or other power equipment; perform basic maintenance and inspections on equipment; maintain active forklift certification.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED; 6 months experience in a logistics/distribution environment; able to operate MHE.
  • Physical/Environment: Able to work in warehouse temperatures; ability to lift 21–50 pounds; able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and kneel as required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS

  • Forklift training certification (satisfactory completion).

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Computer Skills: Basic computer skills, RF scanners, WMS functions.
  • Language Skills: English (reading, writing, verbal).
  • Mathematical Skills: Basic to intermediate level for quantities, inventory counts, and handling tasks.
  • Other: Strong attention to detail; ability to perform with minimal supervision; adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1–2 years in a warehouse/logistics/distribution environment.
  • 1–2 years forklift experience.
  • Current or prior MHE certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Occasionally: Handling/Fingering, Sitting.
  • Frequently: Bending.
  • Constantly: Walking and Standing.
  • Ability to lift/carry and push/pull 21–50 pounds; reach above shoulder, reach outward, squat or kneel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment typically has low to moderate noise. The employee is rarely exposed to fumes or airborne chemicals. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties.
